Hmmm...

Sportmaxx- $318
RPM A-arms/bulk spacers/shock towers/skids - $85
Gallon of 20% - $25
XTM front skid - $20
MG645- $40
HPI Wheels- $20
Imex Baja Tires-$40
Trinity Springs - $16

A $20 failsafe and $3 return spring?

PRICELESS.

Here is the thing. You don't realize you need it UNTIL AFTER you have a runaway- that's the problem. Imagine your truck going full speed into kids, animals, cars, highways, whatever, and if that doesn't scare you, on top of a lot of $$$ in repairs, it should.

I thought it couldn't happen to me- and it did, and it changed my outlook on safety. These things are dangerous, and we should do what we can to mitigate the risk.

You won't think you need em until it happens to you- and more then likely it will. Before you buy new wheels or a pipe next time, just kick down the $25 for a spring and failsafe and then don't worry about it again.

Yeah, I don't get that far from my truck either...But, When the batteries (RX or TX) die it's a good thing to have.

A spring by itself will not help you if radio interference blots you out. You really need to be running both a spring and a failsafe.

Yup.

Here is a perfect example of needing each

Throttle Return Spring- I was driving the Savage last weekend. The throttle linkage came off of the servo! The screw came off, and the servo arm came off of the servo! No failsafe is going to catch that! The throttle return spring pulled the throttle to idle.

Failsafe- The transmitter batteries died while I was driving. The failsafe pulled the throttle to idle. Done deal.

Look at it this way- You need protection against MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL failures. A spring covers mechanical failures, and failsafe covers electrical failures. Cover your basis.

This should really be a no brainer. This stuff is VERY cheap- less then a set of 2 tires!!!

definetly both.
i run a ofna failsafe and 2 traxxas return springs.the fail safe is small enough to fit in the reciever box.i use 2 springs 1 located on the servo horn hooked to front shock tower and the second on the throttle linkage arm hooked to my pipe.the springs are strong enough to pull throttle shut with power off but dont seem to effect brakes.

heres a pic.

Looks like a Sirio TX-18 pipe also known as the Sirio Big Bore pipe. May be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. From everyone I have talked to the Sirio or the RD Logics is the ones to go with. I'll be picking up the Sirio at my LHS later on today if they still have it in stock.
