I have a Z-445 engine. It is my first gasser. Any suggestions for the use of it. It is going on a Lanier laser 200. Also what is the difference between the ignition system that comes with it and a C&H Ignition for it? Which is better or is it worth going C & H? Also on the fuel tank setup There is no mufler pressure. So all you have is the fuel line and a filler line right???

Easier to go the 3 line system, same as alcohol setup, otherwise you'd have to fill through the carb line. Also make sure the tank bungplug is compatible with gas.

Bung plug??? What is that. I have never heard that before? And as far as the three line system., the muflers are not taped for a pressure line?!? Do I have to tap it or does it run without one?

The stopper for the fuel tank MUST be gas compatable. You need 3 lines or a T and a fuel dot in the carb line.

Johnny. I can see your frustration with the previous answers.

There are two ways you can hook up your tank.

By far the easiest is to use one vent line (vented to atmosphere), and one for both Carb (your clunk line) and the Fill (using a tee) with a fill line and a plug of some sort to seal this line off after filling the tank.

This is the way I set mine up for a gasser. It's not necessary to use a third line for fill, besides, if not done right, you'll not be able to remove the fuel from the tank at the end of the day.....

Here's the "other way" using a seperate line just for the fill.

You'll need two clunks in the tank, one for fill, one for the carb. The second clunk is needed so that you can remove the fuel from the tank at the end of the day. The carb clunk goes straight to the carb......

The vent's the same in either hookup.......

Injun Ear has done a fine job of making this system sound as simple as it is. Just one thing to add: When the engine is not running, the carb supply line is closed at the carburetor. That is why you can fill with a tee in the line and not have fuel running out the carb like it would on a glow engine. On my planes, I use the two line system with a tee in the carb line to fill, and when I am ready to go home I just plug the vent line and leave the fuel in the plane. The system is sealed when the vent is plugged, so no gas will leak out.

Great, Do you guys have any recommendations on ignition systems? Is the one that xomes with the engine ( magnetic ) good or should I invest in a C&H Ignition system? And also a fiber optic engine kill system?

There is a subtle advantage to a 3-line tank. The feed line to the carb always stays full of gas so that there is gas available to the carb immediately when you flip the prop. No need to guess about how many flips with the choke are needed to get gas to the carb. Also, the fill line doesn't need a clunk, it just needs to sit on the bottom of the tank so you can remove all of the fuel. My fill line (on a Bennett Built tank) goes from the top of the tank, straight down to the bottom of the tank.

Ignition systems:

Electronic: Good: better idle, less vibration at idle, easy hand starting, lighter, perhaps tiny bit more top rpm. Bad: $$$

Magneto: Good: no ignition battery, lower cost, runs OK. Bad: rougher idle, harder to hand start, heavier.
