Hi guys thanks for your replys
with the 15cc rcgf it flys very scale at about 1/2 throttle
no problems with the balance I have put the ele and rud servos down the back
the mount that I used is just the standard standoffs that came with the engine
the only mod I did was shorten the engine box by a inch
the tailwheel that I used I can't remember
but it was for a 30cc size aircraft and of good quality at around $30 aud

Thought I would post a couple of pics of the tail feathers so far for the Floyd Fitzgerald Ag-Cat. I modified the plans to reflect the extended tail and wings version of the "B" model.

Hello Everyone.

I've enjoyed reading the forum and finally joined.

My question is whether there currently any plans for sale, kits, or ARF for the Thrush Commander?

Many thanks.

Bob

Bob,

I'm sorry to say that there are currently no plans, kits, ARFs, etc. for the Thrush Commander.

I did start drawing up a set of plans a few years ago but never finished. This was for a 108" span model. Recently I've been thinking about drawing up one in 1/12 scale for electric. So maybe I'll get the bug to start back on the large one.

Bob, Just a reminder to go through this whole thread! Wow, such great info here about all crop dusters..Try searching Air TRactor.com for three views of their beautiful planes, which in my opinion are a near match for the "thrush". There is also the fella in North Carolina I think that does two sizes of these and also sells plans only if you wish...Would be a slight kit bash to make them into a thrush...Pat

Hey Airservices, glad to see someone knows what a Ceres is, I also was fortunate to have done some time in one and also the Beaver. The old Ceres I flew is now in the Moorabbin Air Musemeum (Victoria).
Check it out. If you would like me to email some pics I have a few on my file.

ESM Arf's (aka ECOMRC) have hit the docks and are showing up everywhere.

If anyone is wanting an ARF in the 96" range then now is the time to snag one

I have just recently aquired a Hangar9 Piper pawnee all done up with a Saito .82 and Spektrum/JR electronics and a JR/PROPO 1650 Mah NiMh battery....MPI combination charging port and ON/OFF switch setup.....It DEFINITELY needs a scale sized pilot in there yet tho.....any ideas of where to aquire one that fits sitting on the seat?.....I do already know about the custom Pilot artist online here that will carve one in your likeness too, and I dont think I am good enough of a RC Pilot to want to possibly kill myself in a crash....LOLOL

I haven't decided yet if I will install a complete lighting system in this airplane yet or not.....kind of depends on what it will entail to get the wiring ran thru the wings and such yet. I installed a set of NAV and Strobe lights in the CM PRO Cessna 182 that I own and it was a very good thing that I own a micro diameter Bore-Scope camera that I was able to push down thru the wings toward each wingtip and come up with a route to run the wiring.....and yet it took me over 9 hours on just the wiring run on just the first wing that I attempted....talk about a steep learning curve to figure out what worked best to route the wiring.....I used a RAM Lighting setup on it.....any other manufacturers that anyone knows about that they can post links to them I would most certainly appreciate that also....

Another question.......does anyone have any links to different sprayer systems to mount on this Pawnee that actually function properly such as smoke spray.....or powder.....or even possibly liquid <aka water>.....I appreciate all the links to pilots, lights and sprayer systems in advance, and I am going to post a couple of pictures of its maiden flight......it was most DEFINITELY a biggggggg handful to get it flying smoothly while we both trimmed it out....but once that was accomplished its just a big ol' docile trainer-like aircraft to handle in the air now......we flew it soooooooo lonnnnnng on its maiden flight trying to get the proverbial "one more time around" profile picture for our club's photographer that guess what happened....YES you're absolutely correct.....an out of fuel deadstick glide back to the runway......this Pawnee glides FOREVERRRRRRR!!!!.....and talk about not losing any airspeed to speak of in a slight shallow banked turn from downwind to base and then again another banked turn onto final approach and a greased-in perfectly smooth landing.....definitely exciting to have to learn it's tendencies the hard way on the maiden flight.....WWWHHHEEEWWWW !!!!!!

Even in powered flight and extreme angle sharp banks and turns without any rudder mixed in automatically the nose did not seem to want to drop but just the slightest fraction and you barely had to apply just a slight touch of elevator to keep the nose up in the turns.....I was very impressed by that fact, no doubt......One flaw that I have noticed already, just like what has been mentioned earlier in this forum is the weak landing gear wire system that wants to bow in the middle and also bend at the axle bend point too.....both places tend to splay the wheels way too easily, and hopefully someday I can come up with something a bit stronger for that small problem too.

All said and done, this is a wonderful flying aircraft and I will certainly enjoy it on the lazy Sunday morning flying times.

Once again Thanks in advance to everyone on this forum for all the informative help, links and discussions on CROP DUSTER setup's.

Mark

Dose anyone know what the hight is from the ground to the where the tail wheel strut attaches to the agcat? I have been looking at some pictures and it looks like some ride higher. Could it be a modd for agcats that have what looks like a spreader under them?

thanks. Dale

Had a little accident with my airtractor. The glow plug fell out shortly after taken and had to put her down. I ended up breaking the left wing and decided to do a full refubishing. I am going to add panel lines and rivets. I am also going to replace the YS-110 with a dle-20. I am also considering taking the hopper out and adding a smoke system and routing it through the spray bars. I already repaired the wing and applied panels line. now i am experimenting with rivets. the is my first attempt and dont want to screw it up. Hopfully it comes out okay.

Made some more progress on my airtractor. Got pretty much all of the rivets and paneline done. I elected not to add them to the unerside of the wing since there is a slim chance I will ever get to flight it in any competition. most of the other detail will be added after paint. Not to mount the dle 20 and redo the hopper and tank.

Nice job Bigstew. What you using for the panelines?? I know this is avery long process. I did this on my B17 and it was months of painful slow work.

I haven't talked to Duane in a while I hope his health is doing good. I know he is getting up their in years.
Keep up the great work, I am going out to the field tomorrow to fly my 602 he built for me.

I'm still holding out hope that someday there will be an opportunity for me to build or buy a Thrush Commander.  During college, I worked part time for a friend that owned an aircraft shop.  He had purchased jigs from Grumman after the Ag Cat ceased production and specialized in rebuilding them as well as Commanders.  He would often buy wrecked crop dusters from insurance companies, sometimes joining the fore and aft sections of two Ag Cats with opposing damage.  I must have set a million rivets before I graduated from college.

I think the Ag Cat would be too advanced as my first project so I keeping hoping for a Thrush.  I might end up with something else and painting it Thrush colors.  They were sort of part of my childhood.  Dad was in the ag chemicals business so we were out at the airport often.  Locally, the Pawnee was considered a cheap subsitute for a real duster....most of the fixed wing pilots flew Thrush Commanders (most) and Ag Cats.  My first plane ride was at age six, sitting in a crop duster pilot's lap as he flew around the airport in his Stearman duster.  Up until I was about ten, all the crop dusters were Stearmans.  Later, working at the shop, We'd work on used up Stearman crop dusters that rich guys were converting back to two seaters.

Regards.

Bob

I did a combination of butt panels and overlaping panels using 1/64 chartpak tape and blue masking tape. for the fluch rivets I used a brass tube in a soldering iron and canopy glue for the round rivets. I tried to simulated the rivets and panelines as close as I could to the full scale with the exception of the wing. I wasnt sure how to do the overlapping panels yet so I used chartpak tape to simulated butt panels. I am actually considering selling this one when I complete it and buying one brand new. This was my project to see if I could build something to that level of detail and so far it has come out better than I thought. night add landing lights in the nose also. Still undecided on that.

Yeah I used the same thing, Chart tape and the brass tube on a soldering gun. Well you have done a great job for your first build. This 602 is my second plane from Duane, This plane is a little bigger then the 502. I did the first build for this plane last year after a crashed my 502 at a fly-in. This plane flies just as good as the other one did. I also put the landing lights on this plane, look back on page 68.
Well if you are going to get another plane from Duane I would hurry, don't know how much longer he will be building these fine airplanes. I still want to do the nbig AG-cat but I just don't have the time.
Good luck
Walt

I told him I was refinishing it but he hasnt seen it yet. I was going to send him picture once it it complete. I still have some small details i want to do to it. This was my first serious attempt to see if I could really scale out a plane. Now I am thinking of getting another and starting all over to make one worthy of competing with.

I recently traded for a Kyosho kit-built Cessna 188 Agwagon, 63" span, same as RedTwilight mentioned on page 65 of this thread. Could someone tell me where the CG should be located? I've searched this thread, and can't locate it. Would an OS 91 four stroke be too much engine for this?
Thanks. Rod
