Glenn,

How does that RCV run? Have been interested in their whole line of engines as they are so unique compared to the mainstream. Get pics of her in the air and share, please.

Eric

Duane Habets tried the RCV 90...the geared down one... in his Robin, in hopes of putting it in his 502 Air Tractor. I saw it run, and was wholly unimpressed, as was he. I think he's got it holding down papers in his shop now.

Thanks Eric, for the kind words.. As for the RCV.60, I find it interesting.. after a 2 1/2 hr break-in on the bench. It runs great , Gobs of tork.. I'll be using an APC 14x14 2-blade pattern prop with flying the Piper Brave.. It should fly great with this thick airfoil and large wing at 77" inch ws. All up weight is 8 lbs.
The engine is beautifully machined.. I carb looks to be an OS Max 4 bk. I find it idles & advances very smoothly. As for the 14x14 apc.. I'm getting 5540 rpm. Still want too add a few more details to the Brave.. but going to fly it first.. I'll post a pic or two when I do.. Glenn

Please elaborate. Are you saying high pitch or long length, or a combo of the two? It'd be cool if we could get it to run as it fits the 502's cowl so well. Will multiblades be better due to the lower RPM?

Glenn,

Nice looking bird! That seems like a lot of pitch for a .60 four-stroke, but what do I know, I've only been in the hobby going on two years now. LMAO when I opened the picture with the playboy in the cockpit . I didn't know they published them that small.

Later,
Omaha

Omaha.. The RCV .60 four stroke is a 2:1 gear reduction drive. So the engine maybe turning over 10,000rpm.. the prop RPM is 5000 rpm. Lots of tork'.. so to compensate for RPM , You use high pitched props & larger dia' ..

I finally finished my 502b by Dwayne Habits. By that I mean adding detail to it. I've created and installed an operational hydro spray system. It's still work in progress. I'm not getting enough volume through the spray bars. But I do have Ideas in mine. After visiting a local crop dusting company, they where really helpful with all the tips on creating enough volume from the tank to the spray header. It's just a matter of time. I entered the plane in a regional scale-masters competition and actually didn't do to bad. This was my first major competiton. So I really learned a lot on how to present information for static and also how to become a more competitive pilot on realism of flight.
I have flown the plane now for a couple of months. And I have to tell you that the plane is ROCK SOLID. It is a real joy to fly. Dwayne, If your reading this. My hat is off to you. Your work is beautiful and precise. Thank you for producing such a fine machine. It is a jaw dropper at the field.

If your wondering, I have a magnum 1.20 4-stroke for power. The plane without the spray system weighs 14.2 pounds. The spray system adds around a pound and a half to the plane. Everything associated with the spray system is removable including the boom arms. I built it that way for ease of maintenance. I'm including some pics for your viewing pleasure These pictures were taken at the regional scale-masters event at Bendbrook Lake. Thanks to the all the Folks at Fort Worth Thunderbirds RCA for putting on such a fun and professionally run event.

I'm looking to build a 1/4 scale Pawnee as my next winter's project - does anyone have details of a practical dusting system that will actually work well?

Thanks

The system I had on my agwagon worked pretty well. There are some picture posted in this forum. I built a hopper that they used to spray solid products and it had a trap door that was servo actuated and released baby powder. Unfortunately it isn't with me anymore. My little brother got it a little slow and stalled it a few weeks ago.

I noticed that all the post here are from last year. Is there anyone building ag aircraft now. I am looking for a kit or plans for an Ag Cat.

Carl - thanks, I'll see if I can find your photos.

Aharden61 - Not sure what size kit you're looking for, but I can point you in the direction of a couple of German suppliers if you wish.

Get your pocket book out for the German planes! Those guys are a bit more into the Ag-Planes than we are.

Any of you agplane buffs familiar with a prototype designed by Texas A&M? I have a photo of it and that's all I've been able to dig up. It's a good looking plane. Radial engine, sorta polyhedral wings, blown plex canopy similar to a Mentor, all aluminum. Believe it was built in the 60's. Sure would like to come across some dimensions........

Hello Pawnee Fans,

I am pleased to announce that Tom Martin from TMRC (Tom Martin Radio Control) is developing a 25% Piper Pawnee to be available as a kit. It is based on the Dick Graham 1980 Nats winning airplane. Tom has been working with Dick Graham and it is believed that he will have the "go ahead" to produce this plane in kit form.

This project has just gotten underway for Tom, but anyone who may be interested in a very scale Pawnee kit is encouraged to drop Tom a line. He already has produced some very nice sailplanes and will soon be adding this airplane to his line. From talking to Tom it is being added to his sailplane line as a tow plane. I have assured Tom that there are many who will purchase the kit as an Ag-Plane and will not use it as a tow plane. For those that do not know, the Graham design Pawnee has a bin/hopper already designed into the aircraft.

Furthermore it is Tom's idea to update the plane to more modern building techniques such as foam wing, aluminum wing tube, and vacuum formed pieces.

Give Tom a shout from his website at: www.tmrcsailplanes.com

You gotta love the old Pawnee for towing vintage and classic Schweizers, and with all of the new advances in ag planes, most of the old Pawnees have been pressed into service doing exactly that....

I have sent the Graham plans over for digital scanning and will begin looking at them in detail next week. I am impressed with his attention to detail in drafting of his design and based upon conversations with him they are VERY accurate scale and used extensive data supplied him by the egineering department at Piper. Plans are three sheets, the third being the hopper design and parts.

With the help of twostroker (the master builder of ag-rc) we will have cowls vacuum formed that are more accurate than those presently on the market matched to this plan and we will also tool up to produce those that cover the wing strut mounts in addition to the formed clear canopy. This canopy cries out to have the framework molded as well or produced as separate white abs part to cut and place over the clear parts. I'll have to see.

We are thinking Saito 270/300 or DA/BME 50 for power so their is adequate and excess power for heavy lifting and towing operations and as usual, we will begin compiling lots of scale details for those who will need them for scale competition.

Feel free to call me or mail, I answer all phone messages, emails and snail mail the same or next day.

tm

Update: Just got the scale documentation in the mail from Dick this week and had it scanned. I think I need to go up to Iowa and photograph his plane to get closeups of all of his construction details such as rivets, canopy and landing gear.

Also have set up as dealer for BME so we can ship motors with kits. We will test with a couple of different sizes.

Have sourced the long stock that would be most difficult for the modeler to find or make too so we can ship the 3/16" x 1-1/4" x 60 spruce or fir spars and the 5/16" x 1" x 36" wing struts included with the short kit of plans, laser cut parts and formed cowls, fairings and canopies.
