I am saddened by this and feel for the family and friends.

Like I stated before of my practice with my son this confirms I am doing the right thing.

Ifix, I remember doing the same thing with my son and now he is flying the plane while I watch. Enjoy the time togeather, it goes quick and they WILL remember.

You know guys, at first I thought of an awol helicopter as a spinning saber, and a very menacing toy indeed. But, then I also stopped a moment to ponder about what an errant plane with a spinning 22 X 10 prop could do. Not a lot of difference is there? Perhaps a horizontally rotating open lawn mower blade is more dangerous and conjures up uglier thoughts? But....

Either way, this thread has reminded me of the first major rule to always try to be alert at the field. And if I am going to be hanging and talking with the guys in one spot for a good while, try and stand or be seated closely in the path of some sort of structure that can provide emergency cover in a reflex instant. (whether it be a chain link fence, or the 4" x 4" awning support post) The thought of being caught off guard while standing in the open, and having no other recourse but to try and stop an incoming heli by holding my forearms up against it MAKES ME CRINGE! Ouch....yuck...

vicman: we have a blast! as he is only 3, there is still plenty of time for him to learn. He is eager to fly, but is too young to understand how to make it fly. I am slowly teaching him though. For now the guillows gliders keep him happy for hours, and there cheap!
I can't wait till he is old enough to throw on the buddy box.

I am sorry to hear about the death of the boy. Tragic indeed.

When Im at the field and there is a helo in the air, I very seldom take my eye off of it. To me they fly too close and too snappy. One little mistake or malfunction is all it takes.

He ducked out. He opened a new account yesterday under "HaLfANDhaLF1988".

Presumably he will turn 16 this year, hopefully he will get a little wiser and less hurtful.

I agree, but based on what he said, he sounds like he still won't get it at 16. What an Idiot.

I've been a "lurker" in these forums for basically a year now. But I have to get off my *****$ and respond to this one. This punk of a kid has crossed the line. halfandhalf ,how would you feel if it your was a member of your immediate family? Slightly different story eh? Remember this, and I'll only state this once, I, personally think you are a misadjusted deviant from Generation X that has no place in this hobby. Deviants like you should be relegated to the line-up at the local PD and should have no place,or voice,or standing in the hobby. Without question you have realized the err in your ways and have already changed your screen name to try and hide your misjustment in words. This makes YOU not only a deviant, IMHO, but also a COWARD. I hope this message lets you sleep fitfully tonight,a 12 year old boy lost his life and that is a tragic event, that could have been my 12 year old. YOU HAVEN'T A CLUE. And I could could rant and rave till I'm blue in the face and it would probably do no good.

And to think, I was so angry at that comment it took me damn near an hour to type that response, I just could not find the right words.

Don't worry about it. Believe me we feel the same way, as you can tell from our comments. He should at least apologize (to the kid, family and the country of Isreal, and to all of us he offended), that would be the manly thing to do.

Like you I had to wait a day to cool off. Big Roger on the coward too! I've been trying to think how I will handle any inputs or replies he makes in the topics I normally haunt. This will be my last look at this thread as I think the discussion has gotten away from the tragic point. As an adult I apologize for the ignorant among us and have contemplated the loss in the young man's family and feel their sorrow. I also am taking away a point to be serious about saftey especially regarding my 5 yr old building and flying freind. We shared an hour in the shop tonight building him a Ridge Runt glider.

Thats terrible, my condolences to the family.

Doesn't that make it two for the heli crowd? Some guy in Texas was killed a a few months ago when his .60 sized "deviated from normal flight operations".
