He mentioned he had an Enya 30SS on it earlier. Great engines those Enya SS series..very good power and light for their size.

I was just looking over the plans for the Taco, and noticed that there is no side view of any of the control surfaces. Are they all just 1/4" thick & flat, or are any of them tapered? Looking at the photos, I'd guess that the tail group is all flat. But I can't really tell looking at the ailerons. Are they flat, too?

Also, are the majority of people going with pull/pull for the elevator & rudder, or do push-rods work just as good?

I hope somebody can help me out, because I'd really like to try one of these planes out.

Thank You,

Mark

The tail surfaces and ailerons are all 1/4" flat. I like the control rods 'cause they're easier to set up.... But the pull-pull is great too.

Thanks for the reply Paul!

I prefer push-rods, too. Not because they are better, but because they are easier to install.

I was also happy to hear that all the control surfaces were flat! Also, not because it is better...but a whole lot easier to make!

Thanks for the help & the great design!

Mark

I used to do pull pull on everything... but it's kind of a pain to always have to adjust it... and a pain to set up... The rods work fine.... You can use rod guides made from little pieces of 1/16" ply, or use landing gear straps with pieces of antena tubing for guilds.

The Fat Free Taco has tapered ailerons. The le is 3/8 and the te is 3/16. It's built with precut aileron ribs, so it's not hard to build. I like this design better, but the 1/4" flat ones work fine too.

Time for that eye exam...it ain't a Pen Knife. I'll bet Robert would love to get the call, he saw at least 2 of them in person at Houston and sure didn't seem to have any issues with Paul's design then. I'll bet Paul asked Robert about it before he ever kitted a single one.

I'm guessing that any small profile plane that you put in front of homeputer would look the same!

...I did notice a similarity between homeputer and an idiot though. Should we notify somebody about this?

Oh, I wouldn't go that far..The Knife (Pen Knife) has a fairly distinctive outline. Not sure how you could mistake a Taco for one.

But "calling Morris"?? Oh please. Just about all the profiles are so close in design it would be a nightmare putting a patent on every single design aspect of a plane. The FF Taco shares a lot of design considerations of a Mark Shope Menace..better call Shope. Oh wait..he cuts the FF Taco kits, nevermind.

I bet if we had access to all the photos from Houston you could see a pic of Robert WITH a Taco. It's sure not gonna be any great earth-shattering news to him. That was the point I felt was ironic.
