I have just ordered a Monster Tote field box kit and was wondering what is the largest size of 12v lead acid (gel cell) battery that can fit in the battery compartment?

The enclosed battery compartment is 7" wide, 4" deep, and 6.75" high.

I build my Field box from a Hobico Kit 2 years ago..
Last weekend I finally got around to finishing it.
My wife wanted me to do a burned finish, I wasted stain.. We did both.
First we singed the wood with a MAP torch to get the grain to pop then hit it with walnut stain.
We finished up with 3 coats of Water Based Minwax Polycrylic.. We'll see if that was a mistake or not over the next few weeks.

Nice finish. The minwax will resist 15% nitro for about 2 seconds. I ruined a fiberglass cowl and wheel pants trying to 'fuel proof' with this stuff. Some guys say if you wipe up spills right away, you are good to go. I found this to not be the case. Now gas on the other hand, works fine.

DeadEye. you were 100% correct..

I did a test on the removable brackets that I finished 2 weeks ago..

30 seconds of contact with raw 15% fuel dulled the finish and made it soft enough to ball up by rubbing your finger on it..

Not good!!!

I used this stuff

http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/polycrylic-faq.cfm

I guess I better find out what I should have used.

What about sanding the surface a little and using oil based polyurethane? A little yellowing on that surface will never be noticeable.

Well after 1 hour of reading "Fuel Proof" posts I've got a freakin headache!!

I'll finish up the flight box with Oil based PolyU

Hands free starter box.
Thant is an experimental starter motor,
but any standard starter can be clamped on.

Martin, those laser engravings on your flight box are fantastic!!

sscherin: My flight box has had quite a bit of fuel splashed on it from dumb mistakes with my electric fuel pump system and the polyurethane has not been affected.

I just added another Goldberg box to my field equipment. It is the "Fuel Tote" kit and it was on sale at Tower for under $6 bucks so I got it. It is very easy to assemble using epoxy and CA. I plan on using it as a tote for two cans of fuel basically so they won't slide around in the back of my truck.
