nitro bear -> Banner Towing (3/27/2004 11:53 PM)

Has anybody ever towed a banner? The banner size would need to be 2' x 20'. I have various planes to pull it, but would probably want to use a Dragon Lady that has a Saito 150 for power. How do you make sure the banner flies upright? Any thoughts and or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My only experience with banner towing was on full size aircraft. They lay it on the runway before flight and jettison it before landing. This reduces snagging hazards and makes overshooting easier if needed.

I'm not sure how they keep it upright but I think there may be a small weight at the lower rear corner.

I think each letter is weighted to keep them upright. Make sure you have a "weak link" in the attachment that will break if the banner should snag.

I've heard you lay the banner backwards in front of the plane to take off. That makes it easier to get started as you gradually pick it up.
