lol I just got the same box from HD to make into a box then I noticed it was the same one you used.

im pondering on how to get a fuel canister in there without cutting the tray I may make something up.. or just deal with it and chop it.

good luck with the box.

I wish I had a picture to show you how I did mine without chopping it up to much.

Instead of chopping out a whole complete corner I widened the center of the pull out tray and removed the center part of the handle grip so that the bottle sit in the center of the box. I only widened it enough to barley fit over the bottle. The tray would place pressure on the bottle to help hold it in place as it expanded when I pushed it down over the bottle. The tray acted as a support to help hold it in its place as I moved the box around. The tray initially stayed in tact, so I was able to utilize it fully.

I stored my started, charger and paper towels in that area. In the very bottom of my box I stored the fuel, battery and cleaning fluid's.

Hope this helped.

Randy

Billy,

Thanks for posting the pix. I liked your box so much I went to HD and got the same one. I customised it almost the same way you did. I'll post pix when I get them.

The soft drink can holder is way fanatical. Like the folks who bring the folding canvas lounge chairs with umbrella, footrest and can holders. Home away from home.

You can ask my wife I am a fanatic. After I built it I thought about not putting the drink holder on it but then where's the spirit? If only I could figure out how to make it a decent chair. Then I would be set.

I got a green one like Billy's from sams club. I abandoned that box and used it for tools, because it didnt come with a tray like the black and decker one does, I had trouble finding space for some of my tools, otherwise it was the exact same box, just green and labelled as a tackle box.

I now have the black and yellow walmart box. For fuel I used a one gallon red plastic gasoline container also from walmart at about $2. I have the fuel container, and battery in the lower half of the box, without having to modify the box for them to fit.

My starter is in a separate carry tray. A smaller version of one of the carry trays that is in the top of each section of the larger box. I used a 5Ah 12V battery from a local electrical warehouse in the small carry tray to power the starter. One side of the carry tray is sectioned off, so it has a place for my glow igniter and a couple of small carby tuning screwdrivers. My wife picked up the small carry tray at Roses for $1

So, I now have a toolbox/fueling station to use in the pits, and a separate easily portable starting box to carry out to where we start our planes.

I will get some pictures to post here later.

Fuel tank detail

I use 2 dubro quick fuelling valves for the fueling system to exit the box. One valve is the fill/empty line, and one is for vent. The two valves are connected with together with a short piece of tube, to provide a loopback system so that the entire fuel system is always closed loop.

Yep, its the same one. With a trailer like yours, you can keep all of your tools stored away, and just take what's necessary out to the flight line. Those of us without such luck end up dragging around a large field box.

The reason I changed to this system, is that we have starting stations at our field, so I like the idea of having something small and portable to leave at the starting station, and having the toolbox/fueling station at one of the tables in the pits. I toyed with the idea of attaching a battery to the starter, but it makes it too heavy. The 5Ah battery in the small carry tray works perfectly.

Brett,

Good shots of the field box!

I assume the battery is to the left of the fuel tank under the blue (foam?) cover and the fuel pump is under the foam bar at the rear?

Let me know.

Regards,

Al

Al,

If you look closely at the picture (click it to get the large version) you can see the battery to the left of the fuel tank it is not concealed in any way. You can also see a little bit of the pump where it protrudes out of the long bar of blue foam to the top left of the picture. Look even closer, and you can see how the plumbing is connected to the 2 dubro fueling valves.

Should we start a club? A brotherhood of sorts?
Here is another cool thing. I'm flying in the mornings so I leave to top at home and just bring the bottom. Whoever made it so you can carry it in seperate pieces deserves a hug.

OK from now on we are known as the Brotherhood of the Box, not as cool as the The Knights That Say Nee, but it'll do.
