Now that's a regular Tim Taylor Tool Time style flight box......a little over board for me....I would need a bigger truck then.

did you end up using the fuel line fittings from Central that you posted a link for earlier?

looks great. is it pretty heavy?

Tango Juliet -> RE: THE FIELD BOX FROM HELL! aka The Ultimate Field box! (4/24/2008 2:10 PM)

About a month ago I bought a "Task Force" brand box from Lowe's. I think it's slightly smaller that the B&D box is. The top half has a "Plano" style drawer that slides out of the front and there is a removeable top tray. The lower half, however, does not have a tray. I've been using it, un-modified, but when I get home next week I'm going to start laying things out for mods. I already purchased a 1 Gal. gas can from Wally World and a new power panel from the LHS. My old tote works fine, but it's getting heavy and isn't able to carry everything that I "might" need in it. The one thing I do like about it though, is the removeable power unit for the starter and glow plug power (it's easier to bring to the runway for temperamental engines). I might just keep that portion. As far as power panels and 12V Gel Cell batteries go, I have a question and this may not be the right forum for it, but here goes. Can I recharge my 12v Gel Cell through the power panel from the wall charger? I'm not that educated when it comes to electrical things. One other question. Does anyone know if you can buy the ball driver/allen wrench holders seperately? I already have the wrenches.

And I really thought I might be original with mine!![8|]

Power panels mounted on front, just like everyone else. Three fuel ports...fill, vent, and dock. Pump mounted on jug, inside unit, and wired directly to power panel, with quick disconnects for easy removal and replacement.

Lower unit...holds 2 small 12v 7mah batteries and 1 large 12v garden tractor battery for the big Sullivan (and backup). Everything is locked in place with 4" (6" around fuel jug) of cellular foam. All connections, from fuel to battery to tool, are modular quick connect, for easy repair and/or replacement. Also contains innumerable props up to 19". Any larger would have to go catty-corner.

Under the top tool tray is where I decided to forgo mass storage for convenience. Instead of filling this space with tools I seldom need at the field, and making the box too heavy, I used it for radio and starter storage. Again, all locked in with 2" cellular foam, and all connections on the starters are modular, and can be used off the power panel or directly off a battery.

The whole unit weighs just a little more than my old Goldberg Monster Tote, and takes up about the same space in transport. The best thing...? The whole deal cost me less than $10.00 in parts to build, since I got the box as a door prize at a distributors open house!

hey can I have the wheels of your tool box

i know this is a old thread but it is awesome. i am about to start on my field box from hell and read that some people was using the portable jump boxes. are you just using the battery out of them or is there more there that you can use? if any one knows of a website with information on this or has information on it i would really appreciated it.

I am about to start mine also, still trying to decide on the type of panel to use.
I would like to go completely 'wireless' so I am trying to find a good starter with a battery.

aerofly0610 -> RE: THE FIELD BOX FROM HELL! aka The Ultimate Field box! (10/28/2009 7:04 AM)

We need to get some composite guys showing us custom fiberglass field boxes.... or how about getting some old duct work and building a box out of that... that would be awesome!!!

I want to make a box that looks like a gas station pump,, it'll be fiberglass painted to look like brushed steel,,, or Ill use galv duct work from the Menard's or something... AND I want to figure out how to make a real fuel nozzle with a trigger on it (could I convert an air blaster with a micro switch?). Somehow Id like to figure out how to get fuel selection on there.... button for 2 stroke, smoke, and gas!!! That would be sweet! May have to have 3 separate pumps, as to not mix the fuels. I could store the fuel in the bottom with bats,,, and the top portion could hold my tools.

If you have ideas to help/improve on this idea let me know!!!!!

I took the hobbico starter and got the battery attachment only to have the battery die on me after a few charges.... so I took two packs of 7cell rc car bats and put them in the holder. 16.8volts and 3000mAh of starting bliss!

NIce thread.

I built these 10 years ago to minimize the stuff I take to the field. I had envisioned them to snap in to a larger unit, but never got around to doing it.

These flightline buddys are 304 stainless steel, have a internal 1/2 gallon fuel tank, 12V gel cell and electric pump.

So far so good, they still look like new. I tried breifly to commercialize them without sucess, but they are very handy for short trips to the field.

I like the little box. The lighter the better. Anybody else have any suggestions for a small box that doesn't weigh so much?

Tower hobbies has a lot of those. I had the GP master caddy at one time... was a nice box,,, until I ran out of room!

draper_88 -> RE: THE FIELD BOX FROM HELL! aka The Ultimate Field box! (1/5/2010 1:23 AM)

If i plumb two 1/2 gallon fuel jugs the same way as you show doing with the fuel tanks will it work the same way?

thebluemax -> RE: THE FIELD BOX FROM HELL! aka The Ultimate Field box! (2/28/2010 9:31 PM)

Here is my box. The box is a Stanley where the bottom rear cover slides up and down. I would keep it open when using the box and can close it to keep dirt and light out. I have it set up with dual pumps. One for 2-stroke fuel and the other for 4 stroke. I just need to find a way to secure the fuel lines as I do not like they way they flop around.

On the front, there is one master on-off switch which lights up when it is on. Then there is a switch to select the 2 stroke or 4 stroke pump. 2 stroke on the left and 4 stroke on the right. The Volt-watch to check the battery. On the back I have two banana jacks to plug in my charger to replenish the battery

Then on the left and right sides there is a switch for fueling or emptying the tank and a the push button switch to start and stop the pump. Just like on a power panel. Pull the switch to the front of the box to fill the tank and push the switch to the rear to empty out the tank.

Every switch except for themaster and the push buttons have an off position in the center. I probably could have used just an on/off switch but I figure I have an emergency switch everywhere if needed.

Now all I need is for the weather to break and the snow to melt to use it.
