Looks like an 'Aeromaster Too' (both wings swept back), except for the bolted on wings. Seven pounds is the normal weight for this plane. Eight would be heavy. Twelve??? Good luck with flying. Check the C of G is a quarter inch in front of the rear strut.

i think can remember Don Lowe at the W.O.R.K.S filed south of Dayton Ohio had a beautiful Aeromaster with a super tigre .60 blue head, always loved that engine, sounded so nice at idle.  It (and him) flew great.  always wanted one, have the kit and a few .60 blue heads but never built it..

My oldie but goody somewhat kit-bashed GP Aeromaster is still kicking!
As I noted previously, it came out a bit heavy and is powered by a Saito 100 GK.
It seems I had some problems with the Saito - bougght it on ebay as slightly used. Still came with the Horizon Hobby warrantee.
I was using a 14x6 prop and it always seemed to lose power.
Recently I changed it to a 14x8 MAS prop and the power loss seems to have disappeared.
Now I just need to clean it up with strut pants and large wheels.
What a fun flying model.

Does anyone know where the Aeromaster fuse will balance without the wings installed. I'm finishing up the fuse and would like to get the servo and battery locations done prior to finishing the wings.
Thanks

BTW I'm using the new Evolution 10GX gas engine,

This depends on the weight of your wings

Oh My
Thisis a perpetual question.
When I built my Aeromaster, I put the elevator servo on the side of the fuselage.
This did make a difference and I ended up putting a bunch of lead weight in the nose to get it balanced correctly.
My suggestion would be to tape the servos where you want them - put the model together wings and all - and most importantly, the engine in place with spinner, prop in place, and then check your CG and adjust from there.
If anyone tells you where there CG is without all the stuff in place, it'd be a shot in the dark if your somes out the same way - not sure anyone has the exact same equipment that you are planning.
My 3 pennies worth.
Pete

4dogspete, what I want is someone who has completed the plane and flew it to tell me where their plane balances with the wings off, just lift the fuse by the cabane and find the balance point. This does work I have done this many times, most recent with my 100cc Ultimate.

Actually I keep the airplane together, wigns and all.
If I need to take them off, I'll check the balance and post my reply.

Depending on which of three wing types, Mine is 3/4 " ahead of the rear wing mount. If you install gear too plan you should only have to move your battery or engine mounting.

I'm using short bottom straight and short top swept. I'm using a gas engine with ignition and battery and I want to be sure the CG is close enough that I can adjust the receiver battery to fine tune the cg.

The new Evolution 10cc by any chance? That would make a nice combination.

Yes Trisquire, I have an Evolution 10GX. It will be interesting to see how it runs.

I suggest you build deliberately nose heavy, keeping everything like servos well forward. Later on, if (with the wings on) you can adjust with the battery. I fine-tuned mine with a small ounce weight implanted in the extreme end of the fuselage. Better that than huge weights up front.

Hi

I found this great thread a couple of weeks ago and I am slowly reading through it.

Today I found this photo at http://www.modelflight.regheath.com/mf097/ (Sadly Reg Heath is no longer with us). Click enter then go to menu, click on Photo Gallery for more info. This was put on line in 2005 not long after this thread started.

Thinking about the CG reminded me of some stories from the past. I was looking at the prints and realized the top swept wings area is almost evenly distributed over the CG and then I remembered the stories of people flying with just the bottom wing. Anyone ever hear of this? I remember one day back in the 70's a guy flying an Aeromaster had a problem with the top wing and he said "I think I will just leave it off my friend flew his that way". Well I talked him out of doing it and he packed up and went home to repair the wing. On another occasion a friend of mine told me of seeing a guy flying an Aeromaster and the top wing flew off and he continued flying and landed normally! Anyone ever hear of this?

This remarkable plane was my first Aeromaster. After a mid-air, I flew it back to the field with one wing and and half a propeller. The engine kept running, and any other plane would have been shaken to bits. There was nothing left of the other guy.

I remember reading a story in a magazine about a fellow losing his engine in an Aeromaster - literally. The engine fell off. Somehow he managed to bring the plane down safely in spite of the massive CG shift. I don't remember if he ever found the engine again.
