did great planes sell some of the original AMCO set ups with wood motor mounts before the redesign?
my research is showing some with the orig LG and Cheak cowl but with Great planes logo on the plans.

Finally found a couple of pics of the Aeromaster Too I built back in the late 70s. ST 71 power and foam wings from the Wing Manufacturing Company set. Flew just great. I turned the gear around, front to rear, and it worked out just fine. Lost it in the mid-80s when the top wing came partially off, but by that time it didn't owe me anything....
If anyone's interested, I'll also post o

So on Friday my Aeromaster had an unexpected encounter with gravity. The front bolts on the top wing vibrated free and the wing popped up flat against the wind. The huge speed brake sent me down into the ground. The wings are in great shape still (the bottom one has no damage!) The fuselage itself has broken in half. One of my buddies at the field says that it is easily fixable but I know it will never be the same. (Plus making the cabine struts from scratch scares the willies out of me!)

So I found a kit on ebay and bought it last night. I am thinking of building a new fuselage and recovering the old wings to fit. How difficult a build is it? I do have some experience building. (My latest project is a half finished Smith Miniplane.) So is it easy or is it one of those kits where you are given a set of plans and some balsa seeds?

mine is still in the box but it is a "builders kit" . i would not give up on the old one though especially on one that is OOP.
i have a crashed one that is rebuildable and both wings are in half as is the fuse and the rudder and elevators are gone. I am going to help one of my flying buddys rebuild it as i just got a kit also.
BTW how much was the EBAY kit?

Aber,
Sorry to hear about your mishap and thanks for sharing the cause of it. I'll take another look at my wing bolts.

Unless that fuselage is a banana or shattered into tiny pieces I would strip off the covering and rebuild it rather than starting over. It's almost always faster and easier than starting anew. The cabanes are just piano wire you can get at any Home Depot but try straightening the originals first. They are likely glued in with concrete and the most difficult thing to replace.

Having just built an Aeromaster from the Great Planes kit I can tell you there is a lot of 'cut to fit', 'sand to fit', 'shim to fit', especially the wings. I chuckle every time I see that slogan on the box: "Fabrication That Is Tangible!" HAW! Maybe in 1965...

It's called "building"

OzMo the bidding ended at $127. The last few that sold on Ebay went for about $170. After shipping I am hoping that it will be around $150.

Well here are the before and after pictures. The guy who built it was quite the builder. It was an amazing paintjob and I doubt that I can repeat it. I was just thinking to replace it. I don't know if I could bear to look at a botched up fuse. That and the cabines still scare me (they will have to be re-soldered at at least one place). I know that the fuse is repairable. I was planning to put it on a shelf and come back to it another day. The fuse is a fairly clean break so I will be able to fix it.

Thats not bad, as a hog bipe will run around that $ wise.

Man I really would fix the crashed one, its not to bad. Bamboo skewers work really nice for those kind of fixes. IF your not gonna fix it find someone in your club that wants one or send it to me I'll pay the postage! . 'cause they ain't makin any more of these cuz

Well maybe I will give it a shot. Anybody able to email me a diagram (full size) of what the cabine should look like? How about the wing incedences?

I would love to get started on it right away. I know the info will come with the kit but who knows when that will get here.

I picked up an Andrews Aeromaster biplane from an estate sale the other day. It has never been flown but seems to be build fairly well. It has two 48 inch wings - top one is swept and the bottom is straight. I have no plans or manual to go with it. Can anyone tell me where the center of gravity is?

Here is the link to an earlier thread about the Aeromaster:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4560887/tm.htm

On post 5 you will find this information:

Configuration 1, 48" Top Swept, 48" Bottom Straight - 7/8" forward of the rear cabane.
Configuration 2, 52 1/2" Top Swept, 48" Bottom Straight- 3/4" forward of the rear cabane.
Configuration 3, 52 1/2" Top Swept, 52 1/" Bottom Swept- 3/8" forward of the rear cabane.

There are also a couple of other threads on the Aeromaster. I suppose the search feature isn't very good, but it would be nice if disparate threads like this could be linked.
