Well I got a set of plans from 1968 and am scratch building it with mods for 91fs and 52' wings. Wing plans are for the 2 model and have had them for a week , ready to start sheeting.
Oh and this is not my first it is #6[;)][:D]

PlaneKrazee -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (6/26/2008 5:42:10 AM)

I just picked up a NIB AAMCO Aeromaster Too on _bay. The box has two stickers on the front, the large Aeromaster sticker and then smaller Aeromaster Too in the bottom left corner. I wonder if this was made during the switch to the newer Too version or if all Too boxes were labeled this way, not that any of this matters. The only problem with the kit is the canopy is split up one side and unusable.

The kit looks much easier to build than a Sig Skybolt but the Skybolt is a sexy b_tch!

Canopy's are available from Great Planes, about $7.

Here is a picture of the first Aeromaster I built in 1971. It didn't come with a canopy, so rather than have an open cockpit, I went for a simple flat sheet streamlined cover. If you don't mind the look, it is a simple solution.

Without a doubt... heck of a deal!!!

jrbmoto -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (7/2/2008 11:27:15 PM)

Yup, thats an Aeromaster allright. Obviously a GP version judging by the cowl and the bolt on wings. You got the deal of the century!!

Tracy-

I'll give you $25 for it, sight unseen! [:D]

CrateCruncher -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (7/3/2008 3:10:02 PM)

TKLINE,
Judging from the uncut cowl I assume its never been flown. Before flying it check everything! The incidence should be -1 top wing, 0 bottom wing, and +1/8" stabilizer. Also, there have been a lot of upper wings come off of the Super Aeromaster over the years because the mounting blocks were just glued to the center ribs. Check to make sure the interplane strut mounting tabs are strong enough too. Fiberglassing the wing centers is mandatory.

What a coincidence. I just got the Great Planes Super Skybolt off FeeBay and am studying it as well. The moment I opened the box I began comparing it to my GP Super Aeromaster. The top wing outline is virtually identical. I have to say this kit reminds me a lot of an Aeromaster with ailerons in both wings. Theres a lot more prefab and die-cut parts which will save time and make alignment a lot easier but theres also a lot more parts to assemble. In all, these two are probably about the same difficulty - advanced intermediate. The Skybolt has the edge in the looks department though... I think I'll stuff a YS110 under the hood!

tkline -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (7/4/2008 6:48:33 PM)

thanks, i thought it was an aeromaster but wanted to make sure i have a super tiger .61 i think i will put in it and yes it has never been put in the air the cowl is uncut and it has never had a servo tray or fuel tank put in it thanks again for your help and advice. Tracy

Hey Scott.

I took my Aeromaster out last Sunday. The engine ran lousy but the plane flew really well. I experienced
a minor glitch with the radio but I think I've got that figured out. I have a new Perry carb coming in for it
and hope to get a few flights in this weekend. It was really nice to see it in the air going through the paces.
You'd never know that it had been 25 or so years. I'll ask my beloved to take some pics. No guarantees.....

Cheers.

Mike

Started build 6/22/08
Scratch all the way with a few mods. From Andrews original planes.

Live Wire -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (8/21/2008 3:30:55 AM)

Well I made the control surfices larger, and set the fire wall back for a 4ST 91 Engine. Still want to detail it a little more[8|] Any Ideas on what to do[;)]

And bolt on Wings[:D]

aeomaster32 -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (8/21/2008 6:51:56 AM)

She looks pretty enough. Detail can add weight. Don't bolt on the wings unless you don't mind extra damage if you have a bad landing. Do solder on cross brace wire on the cabane - I can see them take on the strain when I move the top wing. Standard control surfaces give rapid enough response I have found. The original design is not something easily improved on, witness the GP later version.

I might add, that I think the original landing gear design is so good, that I convert my other aircraft to that system. That gear has saved my aircraft when it contacted the ground from a too low loop. The gear rotated then sprang back, launching the plane back into the air. One chap who bolted his gear on, came up to me and said, "See, I told you it wouldn't come off the bottom". It sure didn't - it ripped out the whole bottom of the machine.

Live Wire -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (8/21/2008 3:37:12 PM)

aeromaster32
Seems I have never had problems with the landing gear. I put the solid one on because it was avalable. Kind of interesting , back when Lou came out width these planes we did not have the equipement we have to day. We built the planes to come apart on impact[:@]Then when newer and better materials and radios came out ,that coming apart stopped.
Of all the aeromasters I have had I have never totalled one.[8|] gave them away or sold them, but there is always a first time.
I came out at 7 1/2 lbs all up.

GlowFlite -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (9/2/2008 6:35:33 PM)

I know this is an older subject but I just got a hold of an Aeromaster myself. What is the cg location?? How far back on the top wing??

pd1 -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (9/2/2008 8:07:21 PM)

This might help.
Coincidence, I picked one up at a RC Flea market Saturday too.

prundel@cox.net -> RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ?? (10/18/2008 1:33:55 PM)

I am rebuilding an old crashed Aeromaster that a friend gave me. I have everything ready to go except I need a top wing.
If anyone has a left-over Great Planes 60 size Aeromaster - or even a Lou Andrews Aeromaster top wing - swept back long wing, I'd be willing to pay for it including shipping.
If the wing has minor crash damage, I can probably do the repairs, but it's probably easier than building a new wing out of foam or scratch from the plans.
I live in the Tampa Florida area, and can be contacted via:
email - pete @ prundel@cox.net, or by phone @ 813-995-2110
All help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Pete

HI;Interesting I must be the only person in the world that dislikes the Hog Bipe!!Have an Astro-Hog and liked it so though the bipe would be the same, was very disappointed used a Mag 91 4 stroke and it flew tried a 61FX and barely got off the ground looked like a helicopter hanging on the prop got down in one piece and gave it away to fellow who wanted something to hang in his garage! The Aeeromaster sure sounds interesting though. Still have 8 bipes left so will survive without it I guess.

You aren't the only one who doesn't like the Hog Bipe. I have one and wish I never built it. I put a K&B .65 on it per the plans and it was a real dog. Changed to an OS .91 four stroke and it's a little better but still I just don't like it. I can't put my finger on it but I just don't like the flight characteristics. I think it would fly better on a .90 two stroke.

I've also got an Astro Hog and love it to death. Flies perfectly on a K&B .65.
