I fly fixed wing planes and was considering buying an Aerohawk. After looking at this site it seems that there are a lot of problems with these small heli. I wanted to know are they worth buying? If so, I noticed that rc-expert had some good deals on ebay, is it safe to use this seller? As some say sellers in the US con us Europeans.

Any help and advice is appreciated, thanks

How do they con Europeans? Your the one that is doing the bidding. You pay what you bid, plus shipping and the deal is done.

As for the Aerohawk, I don't think it matters which micro heli you get, they all have there problems. As for the best one, that all depends on who you talk to, everyone has there own opinion on which one is the best.

When I said con, I was referring to what I have read in other forums. I have read more than once that RAIDENTECH fail to deliver goods and that non US buyers are not covered by fraud. This is only what I have read and wanted to know if there was any truth in it? (Did not want to cause any offence) And also your opinions on micro heli

bought my aerohawk from rc-expert - no probs, fast delivery considering all the way from hong kong. Flies really well as long as your take your time to setup properly.

Get my spares from raidentech - cheapest around (e.g. $5 for a stock tail motor) and have provided an excellent service with all my orders - to the UK!!. At these prices you can afford to regard tail motors (which do wear out quickly) as consumable throw away items anyway. Highly recomended.

These micro are ok.. they do fly out of the box.... but obviously it not a good/worthed investment to make. Micro are maybe for your office and just fly arround.... and it take time to troubleshoot... and frustration. If you really think you well be in helicopter for a long time.. i would suggest a mid size helicopter is fine.... at least it worthed the investment later in time... But if you really want the micro.... i suggest get the ms hornet, something that has driven tail and cp.... i do believe this will reduce the problem.. even though it a bit harder to learn (this is what some pepple said...hard to set up a driven tail) BUT... you rather want to take time and set this driven tail up then changing your tail motor every 2-3 hour.... and trying to find a good motor that work for long.... not a fun thing... there probably people disagree to this.... you can go and read more at other forum.... almost everyone change there stuff to cp and buy new heli ...

Simonrscott,

I can't help you out on the fraud coverage outside us.

But the Aerohawk has been a very positive experience for me (I also got mine off ebay from RC-eexpert with no problems). The Aerohawk isn't perfect - I don't think you'll find a perfect micro (or any RC heli for that matter). It is also important to remember that this is a hobby that will take time to learn and will cost a little in repairs as you go through the learning process. Whether to go with the Aerohawk depends a lot on the amount of money you plan to spend on the hobby and how quickly you may want to upgrade to get fancier flying.

I went with the Aerohawk, because without it, I wouldn't have gotten into the hobby -- it would have been too expensive to go with almost anyo other option. I have learned to hover (tail in) and I still have a long way to go before I feel I will outgrow the stock setup on my Aerohawk. I hope eventually to get good enough at flying that I'll want to get a more expensive heli with collective pitch (CP) but for now, I don't need it and I'm happy to fly my aerohawk around my basement during the winter (looking forward to a calm spring day to try it outside).

That's my experience. Hope it will be helpful. By the way, the tail motors really are cheap and take about 20 sec to change when they die, so don't get too hung up on what you see about them.

Good luck,
Heli_fly

Yes, But I can't remember how much

Note rc-Expert also ship via parcel Force who make a charge for performing the Import

I had to pay a total approx £36 when I collected mine from the local depot

It may be better to check with rc-expert about a FedEx / UPS delivery
(don't know if it'll make a difference but it is worth looking into)

If you buy from rc-expert make sure they know that you want a UK 35MHz system

The Heli does fly , Im a newb to heli's and on my 3rd day with it I can hover it OK granted theres a good amount of space in the room ,But If you do purchase one I recommend doing a search on the basic much needed mods so far I have Sanded parts of the rotor head for no binding conditions same with the ball end links, Installed a 1/8" collar on the main shaft to prevent it from sliding down which WILL happen , I have after breaking the tail rotor shaft reconstructed a new one made of piano wire and the same for the landing gear I removed the two triangle pieces located in the frame of the heli then bent 2 pieces of piano wire into a "V" shape and installed the skids on and the new gear onto the frame using 2 part epoxy . Theese are things that should be better built from the factory but would only increase the cost and deter potential buyers. Oh Almost forgot the best mod, I trimmed 5mm off the trailing side of the rotor blades. I did 5mm at root down to 0 at tip . The heli is alot more stable and easier to fly

I bought a dragonfly from rcexpert, I sepcifically asked for a futaba 9 pin din cable for the tx which they got wrong. As soon as I informed them of it they sent me the correct cable free of charge.

Can't fault them.

I'm southcoast uk by the way!

So I got my Aerohawk from RC-Expert. The experience has not been trouble free...quality issues with charger cables and (now) the mixer board. To be fair, RX-Expert have sent me (apparently - not arrived yet) another charger and a couple of battery packs - I fried the supplied charger plus the replacement that I bought locally because of a defective charger cable. The mixer board issue is in progress... the issue here is that they want me to send my board back before they send a replacement. I can understand this (I might be trying to con them out of a spare mixer board) but the delays associated with doing this with a Hong Kong reseller, combined with the issues in getting the charger sorted, mean that I embarked on this learning experience best part of a month ago and have still not been able to really try to fly.

With regards to the transmitter... yes, the make is actually a Rflad. From what I can see it is a clone (or an OEM/rebadged version) of the Futuba T4VF Skysport 4 set. The only 'missing' component is the instructor link set-up (and the rechargeable pack). I cannot comment on the quality of the transmitter compared with Futuba units as I've had no experience.

RC Mart is in HK but here is my experience with them:

My experience with RC-Mart:

Bought an Aerohawk from RC-Mart on eBay, waited for about 6 weeks instead of 10 days before getting the package, just to find out they shipped the wrong Tx mode. Before that, they were very good in exchanging e-mail, kept me informed. Right after they shipped the package to me, all my email to them somehow magically lost in nowhere land. I ended up with a mode 2 helicopter but I ordered a mode 1.

My experience with Raiden Tech:

Ordered some parts, quick shipment but missing parts. They gave me a credit but I rather want the missing parts instead. They said they would send another one to me for replacement - still waiting after a week. Their shipping & handling charge is very high - depends on what you buy from them. For my last shipment, the shipping & handling charge was 40% of my total invoice. The value of the stamps on the package is only 6% of the shipping charge.
