I would like to acquire a sailplane for aerotow. I have a Nosen aeronca champ with a sachs 2.2 for a tug. What would be an Ideal glider to tow, I am looking for something moderately priced.

The Daves aircraft works Ka6 is an exellent glider to learn aerotow - I have it, believe me. It is easy to build, fly, and on the wallet at only $165.

What level of lift does it need to stay up? I hope that it needs only the reasonable to light lift and not just able to stay up in boomers. I am not familiar with the habits of the all foam birds.

Take care Jim

It only needs moderate lift to fly. It was actually designed for this purpose, so it fits the bill . Mine weighs about 10 pounds with 117" wingspan- that's comparable to an all glass ship . It could be built lighter if you used micro servos and kept the strapping tape to a minimum. Mine does not have this feature because I fly on the slope in some pretty rugged conditions and I need the extra toughness.

How did you get a glider that is advertised at 90 oz. to weigh 10 lbs. This seems kind of heavy to me but, what do I know, I have never had a glider or flown one.

Why u want a foamy to tow. Get the real thing.

Like a ASK 18 or a KA6 or a Minimoa those babies look nice are scale and behave their selve in a tow. We have several gliders like the ones mentioned above at our field and thei all do a great job.

Price is relative how much is expensive. a 4 meter glider for 5 - 600 bucks is a nice price. Youcan get fancy buying EMS stuff for 2K++. But for learning 500 should be ok.

Regards

Landi

I have the Daves foamy KA6 also. It is a great plane to learn on. The only thing I would modify from the original kit is the wing spar system. I would try to find a stiffer and more durable material wing spar. I had broken my wing spar several time on hard landings. Keep in mind this was a trainer plane I bought before investing in a glass ship. I would probably put flaps on it also unless you have a long landing zone.
Good Luck
Doug
