Nathan -> JR Helicopter Forum (4/5/2004 2:51:08 AM)

We now have a place for everyone to discuss JR's Voyager, Vigor and Venture helis. Enjoy! Make sure you add this to your preferences as a forum you wish to view.

Steve Campbell -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/5/2004 1:36:08 PM)

Well, how about a juicy rumor?

Horizon management is considering getting out of the heli game entirely. I rate the source I heard that from as a seven out of ten.

They weren't at Toledo either, I hear (the heli division). A clue?????

Disclaimer: The above is total conjecture. It may be true, or it may not be. No animals were injured in the propagation of this rumor.

Prophex -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/5/2004 2:45:08 PM)

ha, good to know that the administrators also read our posts and react to it. This is GREAT [:D] !!!

mups53 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/5/2004 3:18:57 PM)

Thanks to RCU. You guys are the best on the internet. I for one have benefited immensly from your services. Mike Mueller
New JR Venture Heli guy old airplane dude.

bconway -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/6/2004 5:10:43 AM)

Good to see a JR forum! I have to agree with mups53! I am only on gallon 3 of my heli experience, but have progressed much quicker after finding these forums. Where are some good locations/companies for after market aluminum parts and other cool stuff for my Venture 30?

mups53 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/6/2004 5:42:43 AM)

Try these, I like the rotor blades 550 size and might order some. Mike

Rotor -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/6/2004 6:51:38 PM)

Judging by the fact that they only had ONE heli, a Voyager 50, at Toledo, I would be inclined to agree.[:@]

firestat -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/8/2004 11:25:15 PM)

Great! just got the Venture and sort of set it up. Have the Jr XP662 and need some set up hints. Great to have a JR site

kevin pelletier -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/15/2004 1:07:57 AM)

this is great you will like this heli it is very stable unfortunatly i cant help with radio setup i fly mine on a 9cap

Jan_the_man -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/16/2004 7:55:54 AM)

Hi Guys ! I'm looking for some advise ... I want to fit a MC-50 Rotorhead (Voyager IMZ 50 and Sylphide 50) to my Voyager 50 . Is it possible ? If it is , where can I get one and some info on the MC-50 ?

mups53 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (4/16/2004 1:43:04 PM)

I'm just starting to get mine ready to fly. I'm using a new JR 6102 on it. Anyone using this?
Thanks, Mike

jcomp -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (5/18/2004 10:44:58 PM)

Starting JR Venture with glow starter.

What is the best one to use due to the boom support being in the way?

Mrbmp -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (5/19/2004 12:40:22 AM)

A remote one, home made is best, the store bought ones last about 10 minutes

jason515 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (5/19/2004 1:39:33 AM)

how can i make a remote glow starter?

jason515 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (5/19/2004 1:40:20 AM)

i'm using the 6102. have questions, please send me an e-mail

manion_30 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/7/2004 9:59:56 PM)

I have a JR 810G Super Servo and controlled by a GY 401 Gyro with a JR8103 Radio. Has any one had any experience with this set-up? (Good, Bad, or any comments)

I am a beginner again after 22 years and about ready for my first run-up. It works great on the bench in normal and AVCS modes, but I am uncertain on how it will fly.

Any comment of DO's/Don't is appreciated.

Jan_the_man -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/8/2004 6:58:25 AM)

Hi there ,

Doesn't sound like there is be a problem with your setup . Although I would prefer using the Futaba Servo (S9253 or S9254) with the Futaba Gyro for the best results , but fortunately the 401 can be used with any gyro servo . I used to have a JR 460 gyro with the same JR 810G servo and all worked well accept the 460 drifting a bit later on . I replaced all of these with a Futaba Gy601 and S9251 Servo ... WOW what a setup . This works great !

I've heard nothing but praize for the Gy401 gyro from the other pilots in our pits , it works very well . Even the 3D guys like it , but they only fly with the 601 / S9251 combo .

manion_30 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/10/2004 2:14:55 AM)

Jan_the_man

Thanks for the info, and I may just go with the futuba servo later if needed.

My grandparents taught me their are no dumb questions, just some questions that are not as smart. Well I have a not as smart a question.

When setting up the venture 30 rotor head vs pitch curves as a trainer +5 pitch in hover or 50% the table in the book is unclear on the proper procedures. I assume in normal flight mode to achieve the -2 deg one must set the lower pitch setting to -10 deg and then use the pitch curve and raise to -2 deg and the only difference in procedures are the 0 deg and 50% for 3D or auto-rotate. Now for my main point, my pitch curves are much sharper angles at 50% than the book shows. My max pitch is +15 deg and minimum is -10 deg, a 25 deg difference is this normal?

My next question, is 0 deg rotor setup @ mid stick much more aggressive in flight than +5 deg to train on?
It seems a person would have to retrain again because the sticks won't feel natural.

Third question, using the G2 Flight Sim program, does it allow you to change all the parameters and test fly the heli with enough realism to try the changes on the real machine? Different radio programs, Gyros e.t.c.? Does it have the venture 30 model? I guess I am trying to justify the cost to how much I would us the Sim.

As others have said, I am extremely great full to have a place to answer some of my questions. I love it.

Ok last question (really) has any one with no experience with the new radios and new heli's been able to be fly in 5 hours as the advertisements state?

Again I'm greatful for any assistance.

I hope you can make science of the questions.

Jan_the_man -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/10/2004 7:32:25 AM)

Hi Larry ,

These are some very valid questions and I'll try to answer them to the best of my little knowledge ...

I haven't worked with the Venture 30 yet but the basic idea should be the same . As my instructer said " You would want your pitch setting the same on mid-stick for all your flight modes at all times (beginner or advanced)" This is to aid you in the event of an autorotation , how ?...I don't know , haven't gotten there yet . The statement above follows the same setup ideas as in your manual .
The most important thing to me is the fact that you should setup you "throttle hold" curve first for a straight line from 0% to 100%. (my heli's recommended pitch range is -5deg(0%) to +14deg(100%) , a total of 19deg deviation and 50% of that range is +4.5deg for mid-stick)Now machanicly adjust your pitch so that you get your mid-stick(50%) to your mid range value (my +4.5deg) and then if all went well 0% should sit at your minimum (my-5deg) and 100% at your max (my +14deg) . Note you should correctly program your "Swash type/mix" setup (Aile , Elev , Pitch) according to the heli manual values . If set incorrectly the pitch range might be more then prescribed and your servos might start binding .

I think I'll answer the other questions in another reply ... time is running out! I hope this helps or do I sound like the manual by now?

manion_30 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/11/2004 4:29:12 PM)

Hi Jan_the_man

No you don't sound like a manual. You make a lot more sense than the manual.

My book has (AutoRotation) pitch hold last. Here is the Table the manual shows:

Flight Application Low Pitch Hovering Pitch High Pitch
Mode Low stick Half Stick High Stick

N Hovering -2 5 10
1 Stunt Flight -5 5 10
2 3d -10 0 10
H AutoRotation -5 5 13

I was trying to set up all Flight Modes and of course 3d 0 deg half stick is achievable but the curve is out-there. So I guess one of my original questions of setting up half pitch to 0 deg would make the pitch way to sensitivity for beginners although stick wise it would be flying (hovering) at 3/4 stick (aprox. 5 deg instead of half stick. Now, you are saying set up max throw first in this case 18 deg, maintaining 5 deg at half stick and worry about flight modes when I feel bold enough to try them? To the untrained pilot/programer when the manual says to "set up linkages and pitch curves using the table"

I feel uneasy when the book says "If you have properly set every thing up correctly your final adjustment should not be any more than +/- 1 or 2 turn on all control rods". I have started over again and taking your advice.

Sorry about all the questions at once, but I was on a roll. I will try to keep them under control.

Thanks for your response and I am looking forward to reading your replays.

Due to the number of responses, there are very few Venture 30 people or this is really a not so smart question. ha!

Jan_the_man

Darn! the table format went defult I'll try it again.

Flight Application Low Pitch Hovering Pitch High Pitch
Mode Low stick Half Stick High Stick

N Hovering -2 5 10
1 Stunt Flight -5 5 10
2 3d -10 0 10
H AutoRotation -5 5 13

manion_30 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/11/2004 4:51:25 PM)

Hi Jan_the_man

third time a charm

Flight|Application|Low Pitch|Hovering Pitch|High Pitch
Mode|_________|Low stick|Half Stick |High Stick

N | Hovering | -2 | 5 | 10
1 Stunt Flight -5 5 10
2 3d -10 0 10
H AutoRotation -5 5 13

It don't like this, last try.

Jan_the_man -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/14/2004 7:45:57 AM)

Hi Manion

I really would not worry about setting up all those flight modes yet . At first I started with the same single pitch curve setup on all my flight modes , accept for throttle hold , for beginning to fly . This was better for me , no confusion with other flight modes in case you should accidently switch to the wrong mode . Keep It Simple !!! I'ts gonna be a while before you start getting into differnt flight modes and by then you should have an Idea of what type of curves work best for you and your machine ...

Now to answer some of those other questions ... Real flight G2 is a great software package to teach you how to fly . If it wasn't for g2 I would still be hopping around on the ground with my heli . (no curves neede for that , hehehe) Althoug I do have some comments on the software . The stick feel on the software is very real and this is it's strong point to me , getting that stick feel . What I don't like is the graphics idea but it's a PC thing more than the software ... You cannot visualize the model on a 2d monitor as you can in real life so as soon as you take off and start flying around you pretty much for get where the ground is and at first it meets you with quite a surprise , but thats why you have a spacebar to reset on continue ! (SPACEBAR Reset not available on the real model unfortunately) But G2 is still a valuable tool for getting started . Some instructors will not take up a student before he or she doesn't have a few hours of G2 simulation under the belt . I would also recommend to get an experienced heli and G2 pilot to come and setup a heli on the software to closely match what you would be flying in the end . Unfortunatly there isn't a Venture 30 model available for selection on G2 . You might find a Venture setup somewhere on the net from someone who's done it before ... you never know !

I'm starting to ramble on .... I'll check back later for any new questions and a chat !

Cheers

manion_30 -> RE: JR Helicopter Forum (6/15/2004 2:21:36 AM)

Hello Jan_the_man

Thank you for the advice. I was not going to fly the different modes, but if I find a teacher willing to help I would like to see that it can perform properly. You are right I am counting my chickens before they hash.

I ran it up for the first time many problems. I cheated, I made a mount (old TV console) to where it could move around and 2 inches of height. It worked great, I was able to move the sticks to an initial trim, test the tail rotor, and have full power for throttle setting & tracking without any chance of loosing it.

Problem 1: Violent oscillations of the tail at hover in HH and normal, reduced the Sensitivity all the way to 0. I fixed the problem by reducing the throw on the servo linkage, I still need to finish the sensitivity setting for hunting yet.

Problem 2: I had more pitch than throttle, found the mid point of the throttle not centered.

Problem 3: The original rotor blade were way off on CG balancing, and the static balance made the CG worse. I pulled out a new set of blades and they worked great. I ground some plastic off the heavy blade grip and its close.

Problem 4. Foaming of the fuel, and it is coming from the OS 32. The clutch seems to be centered correctly, I wander of the fan is out of balance? It is not bad at idle but at half throttle its almost all foam. I still need to adjust the carb after the linkage adjustment. Any thoughts?

If I don't have any more major problems, I'll put on my training gear and play on the ground a while.

You convinced me to buy the G2 Simi, What modules do I need to get for Heli's? I am making up a wish list to order.

Again thanks and we'll chat later

Larry

hello jason515

Did you ever get instructions for a remote glow starter?
