Hey
I've heard there is supposed to be a RC XRB Lama helicopter from Hirobo in April. Has anyone else heard this?

This is my first post!

This is my first post too! I can hardly wait for the r/c XRB, which will be my first helicopter. The latest I have heard from another poster is that he was told by Hirobo that it will be out in June.

There are some pics of the prototype here (Tokyo Hobby Fair)

http://www.jason.net/heli/fair1003.htm

and the pretty much finished model (I think) on the Hirobo wesbite from the Nurnberg Toy Fair

http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/event/show/2004-NurnbergE.htm

http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/03-img/53-international/2004/2004-205_Nurnberg/16_640x480.jpg

So apparently it's coming soon. There were also some pics from another poster(which I can't find at the moment) who had attended the Nurnberg show and he said the flight was remarkably stable and even has improved flight characteristics over the tethered model.

I can't wait! lol

Here is a little very badly translated info from the Hirobo China page:

http://www.hirobo.com.cn/newsview.asp?id=126

"XRB the R/C series (name temporarily not to be indefinite) XRB the R/C series (name temporarily is indefinite) [ Issue date: 2004-3-21 ] [ news type: New product information ] XRB R/C series The official name temporarily is indefinite XRB RC the Tokyo model ship unfolds in October, 2003 displays Carries on the revision to the current popular XRB series Contains 700 milliamperes 蓄电池组, the flight time probably uses about 15 minutes newly not brushes the motor, this kind of motor starts the more peaceful host fuselage to pass through the redesign, after increased the electronic installation new antenna iron is uses the carbon structure improvement design again improvement XRB highly to increase 20 millimeters, the width is invariable XRB RC from now on still unceasing improvement and improvement Manufacture date: In June, 2004 Four channels remote controls installment is must, is the flight guarantee Below contains the part Helicopter equipment receiver (only 40 milliampere or 72 milliamperes, independent choice) Which one kind of frequency please examine in China uses and suitably chooses Battery charger (please specify model plug model) We will carry on to XRB RC most have the creativity the transformation, but we will not be able to determine it manufacture date Serial number: 0301-907"

So new info I get out of this is: brushless motor, 20mm more in height, June 2004 manufacture date, 4-channel transmitter (purchased separately) required... Cool! I hope it's really out in June.

Actually, for those who are not patient about waiting for Hirobo to release the wireless XRB, there's already an Asian knockoff available on ToyEast's website. I won't link to it here, but you can find it.

It's slightly different (black trim and blades) but it's obviously the XRB. $170, which isn't bad as long as the components aren't garbage (which they may well be, given its dubious heritage).

Still, I have one on order and we'll see if it maintains that lovely XRB stability and flight characteristic that almost got me to throw down $300.00 for something that's not 'real' remote control.

Might as well post a pic of it. They call it the 'F-117 BLACK CONDOR'.

Oh, by the way - that pic posted above of the guy flying one is the old wired XRB, not the new one (you can see the controller has no antenna and also the wire coming out of the bottom of the heli).

Specs:
BLACK CONDOR RC HELICOPTER
TECHNICAL DATA: - TOTAL LENGHT:430mm
- FUSELAGE WIDTH:90mm
- OVERALL HEIGHT:170mm
- FUSELAGE LENGTH:350mm
- OVERALL WEIGHT:208g
- GEAR RATIO:8.625:1
- MOTOR:FK-180SHX2
- BATTERY:8.4V 800mAh Li-POLYMER

Pixelator:

I assume you mean the Nurnberg picture on the Official Hirobo site? That's odd.... Go here

http://model2.hirobo.co.jp/event/show/2004-NurnbergE.htm

scroll down and read the caption for that picture, it says: "New XRB R/C flown by Mr. Pascal Brianchon, HIROBO pilot and member of French national F3C team." I can't see any wire coming off the heli, just a black wire on a desk in the background and the white lines on the guy's jacket. However the controller does appear to have a cord coming off it instead of an antenna, maybe they used the wrong picture or he wasn't really controlling it when the photo was taken? Anyway the other pics here from the Tokyo show clearly show the wireless XRB in flight and show it with batteries and charging station:

http://www.jason.net/heli/fair1003.htm

I also found the other pictures from a Runryder member who attended the Nurnberg show. It shows another guy hovering the R/C XRB over his hand (complete with standard radio controller with antenna and red wire antenna hanging from the tail of the heli). The pic is third row from the bottom, second column from the right here:

http://www.runryder.com/gallery/05513/

The Runryder user also said "Hehehe
First of all that is a wireless XRB which flies on two lipo cells and which looked extremly stable (the guy was flying about 1 metre in front of me. It flew very smoothly and had very little components inside..."

Sounds SWEET! I think it's gonna be a really hot item, especially for beginners.

Hope it's really out in June...

I agree they flew the R/C XRB at that show, especially given the other pics and text accompanying. But the pic definitely shows the wired version (so apparently just an error or something). You can even see the R/C version in the background on a shelf. I pointed out with Photoshop (geek = me) where the wires are visible in that pic, plus the heli lacks a battery (how would a wireless XRB be flying without one?)...

I contacted Hirobo company, they said their is no set release date or set price yet and that it's still in production, but here's the kicker, Hirobo also told me that their will be NO R/C Components included with the new XRB version, a sold seperatly deal, That Sucks............

Suddenly I'm rather pleased with my Black Condor purchase at ToyEast. I was feeling somewhat guilty for getting an apparent knockoff, but if Hirobo is going to play the money-grubbing game, I'm not so bothered. After all, as cool as the XRB is, I've always thought $300+ street price for a fly-by-wire heli was pretty steep.

I'll be sure to post details on the F-117 BC when I get it.

Hmm, what all does "R/C components" refer to? Seems pretty clear from the comments of the user who attended the tokyo show and the translation of the PR on the Hirobo China site that only the radio will not be included. The user from the tokyo show said "any 5 channel radio" and the PR from the Hirobo site said "2004 Four channels remote controls installment is must, is the flight guarantee Below contains the part Helicopter equipment receiver (only 40 milliampere or 72 milliamperes, independent choice) Which one kind of frequency please examine in China uses and suitably chooses Battery charger (please specify model plug model)" which from my interpretation seems to imply that you just need the radio and maybe your own battery charger?

im not sure wat that means its not clear enough for me

flyingfish
if it doesnt come with electronics it could be very expensive. look at the other post by roq. it says it has a brushless motor and 700 lipos so:
brushless's...................................150
batts.............................................30
charger.........................................30
reciever/mixer/servoboards/esc's..200
kit...............................................100
total............................................500
just my guesses and estimates. but if its all togetherit couldnt be more than 300.
