Thinking about doing this and if I plug each battery (4.8V, NiMH, same size) into the switch and then plug the switches into the RX then I will have parallel battery supplies.

If one battery should decide to go dead, then does the second battery charge the first one or is there enough internal resistance in the dead battery so that the second batt. supplies energy to the RX only?

I would like to hear from those with experience.
Thanks
If one battery should decide to go dead, then does the second battery charge the first one or is there enough internal resistance in the dead battery so that the second batt. supplies energy to the RX only?
One battery pack will not discharge much faster than the other. Assuming that they are not defective, the parallel packs will balance each other as they deliver current.

If one pack should develop a shorted cell, the resulting current demanded of the remaining functioning pack is NOT excessive. The differential voltage is not enough to bring the good pack to its knees. It is also doubtful that a charged pack will develop a shorted cell (it is a condition that affects old/damaged discharged packs the most).

Be sure to charge them independently. The two charge jacks are needed to do that.

I have a 33% cap 232 with two 6 volt, 1300 mah batteries it in and the way that i've found works well is put two switches in it into different ports in the receiver, that way if one battery shorts out or didn't get a charge because of a broken switch or something, you still have the other battery. That's just my experience with that little issue. I hope it helps

Thanks guys, very helpful info.
Would not a Y-connector acclomplish the same task as putting each battery into its own port on the RX?

I will definitely charge them separately.

Do you guys do this mainly for extra flight time or insurance?

Is it critical that both packs be of the same size?

Thanks again

I know you've thought of this but for others there is another, almost as reliable alternative. That is to have you're packs custom made with two wires. Then run two switches into two ports on rec.

I think, I could be mistaken, the wiring and switches are at least an equal source of a problem compared to someone letting there pack run down on there valued plane.
Is it critical that both packs be of the same size?
Despite claims to the contrary, the packs can be different capacity. Voltage must match, of course.
