Saw one of these Hangar 9 P-51's go in today. He lost his ailerons which later on we saw that both servo gears stripped. He covered every "no fly"area we have trying to save that thing until he finally lost it. You know, he went straight in from a hundred feet. Killed the nose but it looks rebuildable.

*He was running a 91fx and a 13/8. It was a good combo, Me (Mr Overpower) would put in a 1.08 at least. Here is what us self proclaimed investigators came up with when he brought the remains back from the south forty.
*He had full travel on each aileron servo. His has been flying on dual rate number two for a couple weeks which was less than dual rate one (as normal). Well he switched to Rate 1 which was more travel as it should be but the slots cut for the arm travel were not long enough for the size of arms he had.
*Everything was fine for a couple minutes until he started hot dogging around which threw each arm against the stops and stripped out the gears in each one. Guess its something to think about eh.

I had set mine for full travel then trimed the Tx down to the travel I wanted on all the servos so if one goes bad its from the electronics not from hardware problems then you know your not on stops and strip gears.

Gents: flown the H-9 with smoke yesterday, I mounted a 12oz round tank in a fibergalss dummy drop tank on the centerline on the CG , have it removeable, and have the pump in the fuse .. Made a few adjustments to it ......SMOKIN... really cool.

Guys,

Thinking about doing a flat clearcoat spray job over the stock coveringing on the H9 P-51 to give a more realistic flat finish. Anyone try this or know if it will stick? I know I should probably sand first, but am worried I will scratch the covering and it will show through. Any ideas?

I covered a Balsa USA P-51 with Chrome ultracote, drew on panel lines and sprayed with flat clear. Looks like aluminum!

My friend Carl did a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL job on his P-51. Panel lines, then clear coated it a matt finished. It looked great and flew real nice too. I'm hoping to get him to help me out on my P-51 this week and maybe have its first flight this next weekend!

Just flew my P 51 for the first time today.
Flew like it was on rails. Using a OS91 4 stroke.
Second flight was not good. During take off the
strut ferrings turned into the wheels and acted like brakes causing the plane to nose over. Shattered the spinner and pulled the firewall right out of the fuse. All they used to hold it in is hot glue. Very poorly supported for the size engine this plane can handle. Other than that it is a great airplane. I noticed that everyone is paying $254 for it. Here in MN we are getting them for $199. Now thats a great price for a fine airplane.

I will say it again---- Epoxy the back of the firewall in place because the glue they use is not good. you all need to reinforce the firewall and that area to handle the bigger motors also the landing gear is to light and the gear will bend on you when landing or taking off....

Well:

It finally happened, my model had it's first test flight this afternoon here at Reese Center in Lubbock, Tx. The little Saito .72 pulled it through the West Texas skies very scale like nad I am very happy!

The landing was going great until it weathervane to the east and ran out into the grass where upon, the right wheel decided to pop off and in the process, I think the left retract control horn was damaged. I'll pop the retract out tomorrow and see if that is the case. If it is, then I'm getting the plastic control horns.

Will try posting a few pictures of it this evening.
