Just finished and flown the Hanger-9 Mustang ARF..Just great guys..I feel they have a winner here. I found nothing to really complain about . First flight was just great...The only thing I changed was the engine mounting. I'm using a O.S. Max 1.08 w/ bisson pitts muffler..Yes side mounted the engine..put a 3.5" Tru-turn spinner 4-bladed.. Prop is an APC 13.8x10 4 blade. With the 4-blade and 1.08 ..not overly fast, unlimted vertical. Great wheel landings...likes to float on final.. Great buy @ 254.00.

glenn- how does that 1.08 turn the 4 blade apc? what rpm? any idea of the db level?

the 4 blade would look great- just wondered what speed the 1.08 would produce.

btw i just got this plane- trying to decide whether to put a 4 cycle in it or a two cycle like i have in all my other warbirds. i wonder if a saito 4 stroke like the 100 or the 120 would have a better torque curve for a 4 blade? on the other hand the st g90 has good torque at low rpm. hmmmm...

Glenn, thanks for your email reply earlier. RC - I too had the engine delema! I decided on the Saito 100. Im hoping to put a 4 blade on this motor with the Tru turn spinner like Glenn. Im just curious what size 4blade the Saito will turn? If it would turn a big enough prop, I may just do it! I dont want a "dinky" 4 blade prop, just to have a 4 blade prop, you know what I mean? I want it to look like it should be there. If I could get away with what Glenn has with my Saito, I would be happy! Anyone know what size 4 blade a Saito 100 can handle???? Anybody.......

Ed, no I don't have RPM numbers as of yet, How ever I did buy a new tach that can tach 4-blades, will soon. The 1.08 turns the 13.8x10 just great. The engine is very quite with the bisson,Iwas very impressed with the sound level. As for speed , I'm guessing about 80-90 mph give or take. I do have unlimted vertical, which I wanted. So far I've found the mustang has no bad habits, a real floater on final. I chose the 1.08 for it's a bit smaller in size over the saito 100., a bit more powerful too. But also got the engine for 200.00 new. But really any good engine would fly this mustang just fine. S.T. 90 would do good.

Been listening to the continuous postings on the new Hangar 9 P-51D ARF. Right now I am flying a Kyosho P-40 Warhawk with a 0.S. .40FX. Im thinking about either moving into a Top Flite P-47D or P-40, or the Hangar9 P-51D. Any thoughts as to if the Hangar 9 is too hot of a kit to move into only after a trainer and my Kyosho P-40? Would I be better of going with the Top Flite kit such as the P-47 because of its low speed flight characteristics?? Any thoughts/experiences would be greatly appreciated...

Mike,if you handle the P-40 just fine, you would do great with the Hanger-9 Mustang. I've owned three of the Top-Flite warbirds ,they all fly great...The hanger-9 has a light wing loading
vs; the Top Flights.. I have 8 flights on it so far, and slow speeds pose no problems, no bad habits what I have found. With it's light wing loading , It 's a real foater on final, I carey a few clicks of power on final and wheel land it every time with grace.. I feel if you don't want big power and .60 would fly it just nicely. But again you do have the left stick and just throttle back..lol. Once again ..having such a light wing loading and no bad habits and at 254.00 bones..you would be hard pressed to build a T.F. for the same money. I choose the H-9 ,for I wanted a everyday flying warbird with out spending a lot of cash... Hanger-9 did good on this one..

I'm using that same 13.8 x 10 4 blade prop on a TF Corsair. The OS 1.20 FS will turn it at 8000 rpm (16000 on the tach, divide by 2 for 4 blades!), using 15% cool power fuel, just for comparison.

Glenn,

I appreciate your input, and have to agree, i would be hard pressed to punch out a T.F. kit for under 225.00, (thats what the Hangar 9 Mustang is at our hobby shop), let alone a kit with retracts. Now I just hafta shop for a power plant, anyone have any thoughts? Recomendations? 2 or 4 stroke? Another note, Glenn, you mentioned you had a couple of T.F.'s, which ones? And you would say because of the lower wing loading on the Hangar9 it is an easier plane to handle? Thanks again for your comments.

I just flew my bird last weekend on a OS .60 and stayed at 1/2 speed most of the flight. Only thing I had to do for the second flight was change the elev from 1-1/16 to about 3/4 inch it climbed real good and landed at about 1/8 speed.

My son inlaw and I have been going to Hemingway harbor RC model airplane field. Most times only a couple of other fliers are out there so we fly when we want to with out having all the pattern people taking over when we have newbies learning to fly. Will try to come out Wed morning but have been takeing care of two grand kids since school has been out. That takes a lot of time. Give me a call 496-7485... Pat -- EX Prop NUT member--.

Glenn -

I've got a saito .72 mounted on my P-51. I'm currently waiting on a damn spinner and servo arms for the aileron servos, otherwise, I would be flying it now. Would one of your APC 4 bladed props run on my engine?

Hey folks,

Speaking of spinners for this plane, which one is being used?
