MikeMayberry -> New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (4/12/2004 11:20:08 PM)

Hi all,

Hitec will soon release our new Optic 6 Channel computer radio (Mid June). This radio offers incredible bang for the buck and includes features not found in any radio in it price range (approx $209.99).

For more info go here: http://www.hitecrcd.com

Any questions?

Mike.

Volfy -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (4/13/2004 6:20:14 AM)

Mike, does it have selectable Mode 3 and 4, in addition to Mode 1 and 2?

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (4/13/2004 6:51:47 PM)

Sorry, Mode 1&2 only.

Mike

Mike:

It looks like you guy's just eliminated the need for the JR 631. I have been flying JR from the beginning, but am intrigued by what I see coming from Hitec. Is the option packed, Optic 6 a result of the merge between Hitec and Multiplex? Is it possible to program "flapperons", "elevator to flap" mixing and regular "flaps" for each plane, or would I have to choose between the "elevator to flap" and "flap" options?

There are some options listed for the Optic 6 that I am not familiar with. Is there a glossary or something that I can go to to get them defined???

Andy

dmajchrzak -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (5/14/2004 8:36:44 PM)

I fly a twin engine warbird.

Can I... put the Left engine on channel 3 (throttle), put the right engine on channel 5 and slave to channel 3.
Then, dial in the engines with the rotary trim knob? (Assuming I can control channel 5 trim with that knob?)

I do this today with my Eclipse 7 (except I slave 3 to 7, not 3 to 5). But my Eclipse is getting tired and I like some of the Optic 6 features...

Thanks,
Dave

Hi!
Mike you said that the approx price for that radio is $209.99, but I've found this radio for $140.99 on this site http://h1069844.hobbyshopnow.com/services/advanceresultsDetail.asp?strProd=&strInCategory=RE&tag=hdir . Can this be true? If yes, then it would be cheaper than Flash 4X!

wyflyer -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (5/21/2004 2:32:11 PM)

Does this radio have "trim" and "link" functions on the pmixes so you can do dual elevator servos and things like that?

mglavin -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (5/27/2004 7:18:30 AM)

Guys

Mike Mayberry is on vaction in Europe. Your questions will be answered ASAP.

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (5/28/2004 12:18:47 AM)

Yes, the Optic has an "Ailvator" mix to allow dual elevator mixing.

Mike.

Hi,

Can the Optic 6 be used as a slave and a master to a JR 8103 Radio?

Thanks,

Wayne Miller

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (5/28/2004 7:19:05 PM)

No, Hitec radios are only trainer compatible with Hitec and some Futabas.

JR is only trainer compatible with itself.

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. JR can be used with other radios as long as you use the proper cord. There are some sites that show the different wiring.

Sorry to hear the Hitec is not one of them.

Best regards,

Wayne

Well that's news to me... Kindly point me to that info, I'd like to see it.

Does JR support this?

Mike.

Hi Mike,

I've got to go out and was unable to do an indepth search, but here is an example site that shows sample wiring for Futaba and JR training cords. There are other sites out there and you may want to do a search.

If I can help with anything else, please let me know.

Well since we are talking about hacked cords and not over the counter products, you would probably be able to do the same thing with the Hitec, but I can't say for sure since we would never condone it.

Mike.

todhog -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/3/2004 10:20:40 AM)

Hey Mike, I'm considering the Optic 6 but the guys at my hobby shop think a 6 channel might not be enough for an Ultra Stick with the flaps and crow features. I may not use all that but I'd like to know that I could. Can you tell me if this is enough radio for a plane like this?

Todd

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/4/2004 12:06:20 AM)

The only thing you won't be able to do is mix the ailerons to the flaps since you would need at least 7 channels for that.

It will do every thing else though! :)

Mike

Any updates on when I can get one?

Todd

jacs -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/4/2004 5:56:14 AM)

A new dilemma for me now, shall I buy this radio or the 6EXA?

MikeL -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/5/2004 2:28:33 AM)

The full-wing aileron on the Ultra-stick is fun. If you're going to do it, do it right and get a 7-channel.

todhog -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/5/2004 3:09:51 AM)

Yep, that's what I'm gonna do. Got one lined up today.

Todd

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/7/2004 8:25:50 PM)

JACS- Apples and Oranges! The 6EXA is an entry level computer radio where the Optic is much more capable and will grow with you.

Mike.

aeajr -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/8/2004 9:05:13 AM)

Three questions:

1) Any way to expand the number of model memories?

2) I am having trouble locating where I can buy one of the single channel radios alone? Servo City does not list the Optic yet.

Tower has them listed, but either it is with the Sepctra Module, or with a big heavy receiver and a bunch of servos/batteries/etc that I can't use because they are standard size and don't fit in my parkflyers or sailplanes. I would love to see a package wtih HS/81s and an electron 6.

However right now I am just interested in the single channel radio. Is Hitec selling it that way?

3) Can you point us to any reviews that would cover the optic 6 in depth?

It looks great, but I need more info. I have three club members who have come to me for advice on an entry level radio. The flash 5X and the Eclipse could not meet their needs. The Optic looks like it could be a great choice.

MikeMayberry -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/8/2004 6:09:33 PM)

The model memory is fixed.

The radio is due to be released sometime in July.

We typically do not sell the TX only with a fixed frequency module but sometimes you can get the dealers to sell it that way. Hobby Horse is one retailer I know that will do this.

We may see a park flyer version but typically not for the first batch.

Since the radio is so new and no production versions have been shipped there are no reviews yet. However, I can tell you everything you need to know. :)

Mike.

jacs -> RE: New Optic 6 Channel Radio (What do you want to know?) (6/14/2004 7:13:08 PM)

Okay Mike

Since you want me to buy the Hitec then tell me when I can have it here in Sweden then, because this summer I want to buy a new radio. Not that I need to buy a new but my old Focus 4 shall be handed over to my 6 year old girl so I need one this summer.

No manual are listed on your web page so I can't compare them, not even a preliminary one is available.
