The book says use a fuel with 15%-20% nitro and 15%-20% oil. Got that covered with my Cool Power 15% that I add an ouce of castor to.

My question is, should I prepare a quantity of "break-in fuel" with extra oil, and if so, how much to run through the engine?

I will be using a test bench, 14x7 Graupner (will fly it on a 15x8 APC).

I have always done this (use extra oil on the initial runs) on the numerous OS four strokes I've run over the years. But the YS is a "different" engine. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything with it.

My buddy broke his in on an airplane; couple of slobbering rich ground runs, very rich in the air for a gallon or so, and it runs just fine. I would rather bench-run a new engine, but how much is enough for a YS?

If I were you, Iwould make those two rich slobbery runs on the bench. Then get the needles set to where the engine runs like you want. Then go flying.

The fuel sounds OK but after the first gallon, you want to graduate to 20% nitro. You can even use morgan's30% heli after you get it broken in. Whenever you change fuels, expect to have to change the needles again.

good luck,

Jim

<<..you want to graduate to 20% nitro...>>

Why?

I have no intention of going back to 30%. I use to run it in my helis. It is excellent stuff, but criminally expensive.

I am not one of those who feel the need to extract the absolute last bit of power from my engines. The two YS 91s I am familiar with seem to run fine and idle ridiculously low on 15% nitro.

If you are happy then keep on flying. Cool power is probably better for the Y-S in the long run than Omega. There's a guy at the field that has two Y-S 120's and he uses 15% cool power all the time. They seem to run perfect.

The standard for the Y-S Four stroke line is 20% but sometimes, they run OK on 10% but nothing less.
