I have the little one, the 1/6 scale. The problem with shortening the fuselage to scale appearance is the nose gear. The real T28's nose gear wheel well goes well back into the wing center section. It actually butts up to the mains. The result is a wing with almost no meat in the center section.

Hey facmasterpieces that looks really good . I should get my 1/6 T28 back out. I started the wings but that is as far as i got as i need to buy the retracts and wasn't sure what to buy (85* on wings and 105* on nose i think).
Is it red or orange that you used on the nose and wings?

Leigh.

Great job, 'Fac'! Should be a great flyer. I didn't go back through the posts - looks like maybe you took a little of the dihedral out of it - is this correct?

hello gentleman!i have just shot the flat clear over her! now she´s wheathered and ready to final installation. thanks for the nice comments!
the color is red, but almost orange, i didn´t have the right colours, so i "guessed" as this isn´t a scale affair, i took some liberties here and there.
as for dihedral, it´s stock, i just have changed the t/e thinckness of all tail surfaces, other than that, it´s following the plans!
more pics very soon!

Hey T-28 builders, I have a question, I have built the Pica 1/5 scale using a G23 engine. I think the plane flies tail heavy, their plans show the balance point at about 5-1/4" back, this is more than 30% of the cord, what have you experienced?

It's been a number of years since I built mine, but I'll dig out my CG gauge tonight and check it for you - 5 1/4" does sound about right. I put a Brison 2.4 in mine and it doesn't seem to fly tail heavy at all. You might try adding just a bit of nose weight and see if it helps. Did you double check to make sure your engine is aligned with the thrust line and not pointing up a little bit? Mine flew off the board with no trim adjustments and is a smooth, stable plane with a LONG glide slope. You may just want to go through your incidence/balance/thrust angle settings and see if you can find one that is slightly out of kilter.

Did the G23 provide enough power? seems to be a bit small for that size T28.

I have that kit and the engine and haven't built it because I thought the power was lacking.

Thanks

It flies ok. very much like scale, it can certainly take a larger motor but I like the way it flies, you might try the new G26. You also need a heavy engine in order to balance.

I Flew mine for many years with a Super Tiger 2500 in the nose. It weighed I think 14 pounds. The G26 should be plenty of power for this plane. Remember to use about 10-15 degrees of flaps for take off. this will help the plane rotate from a negative angle of atack of the wing when sitting on it's wheels. the full size aircraft also used take off flaps for the same purpose. The plane is a joy to fly. I am now finishing one of my dream planes. a Byron T-28. At 98" wing span it should be even easier to fly , if that's posible. Iordered it from Iron Bay as soon as I found out they had brought the plane back into production. Saw one fly a year ago and WOW!
