Hi all,

My friend has the time, money and ability to make a small helicopter. Hes been trying for weeks to find a servoless solution to build such small mechanics. He came across a small helicopter, called Pixelito.

Video: Here

Source: Here

And now he is trying to duplicate it, but he cant figure out how its done.
It seems to have full pitch, roll, and yaw capability's.

Does anyone have a clue on what makes this small heli fly?

I believe that it is a fixed pitch heli so it uses throtle to control altitude. It has no swash plate, just a magnetic actuator in the head. If my understanding is correct, this uses electronics that are aware of where the rotor is in its cycle, and controls the flybar, pulsing the magnetic actuator differently as the rotor turns. This gives 2 channel cycllic control with one actuator.
So, 2 channels for cyclic, one for throttle and one for the tail. Similar to a FP micro heli, but with much less mechanical complexity.
Simply elegant.
And I am sure that it is a bear to set up.

Thats what i was thinking. Magnetic contractions, but how does it get all of that on the rotor head.

I think it does it by having a system like a commutator on a motor - a fixed plate with several seperate sections each of which has a different current/voltage. Brushes on the rotating part pick up the current from this and send it on to the actuator which varies the pitch of the flybar blades; at least thats how i suspect. Its a pain he wont tell us!

Hope that helps!

It seems there are loads of people trying to do this! Have a look around and youll find there are loads of forums on the net concerned with this.
best of luck to your friend
