When I built the tail surface for my Eindecker III, I took the easy route (always a bad idea) and built it flat on the bottom and slightly curved on the top. The original had a surface curved both top and bottom. My tail surface ended up about a 1/4" think in the middle and 1/8" at the edges. My question is this: Will having what is in effect and asymetrical airfoil on the tail cause the plane to be unstable? Do I need to rebuilt this? Or in the end will the effect be negligible (something to be handled with a bit of trim)?

It'll be fine. You'll just need a touch more up trim. The CG will still be in the same place.

Bruce, thanks for the reassurance. Will the trim need to be adjusted at higher speeds since presumably as the surface moves faster more lift will develope?

Mount it curved side down. you may need a touch of down trim to compensate... but I doubt it will be a visible amount of control surface deflection.

What Bruce says.
Your surface trim authority will be more than capable of handling any trim problems.
