I am currently flying a Midwest AT-6, O.S. 1.60FX, Robart retracts. Flies great thjough it's a little tricky to land. I think it's a good first warbird. Looks great. too!

did you glass it or Shrink it?

What did it way in at when you finished?
You said tricky to land?
you mean it is a tail drager or the AT-6 is tricky to land?

Baker, I have a Midwest AT6 which has been flying for the last two years. It has a US41 gas engine (I know - it's too much power). Flys very well, no bad tendencies. It was covered in monokote, but all that time in the sun at warbird meets has taken a toll and I got tired of all the wrinkles. I am currently recovering with glass - should be back up sometime in the next month.

Hey man thanks for the info!
Did your kit gotogether well and was there any thing about the plane that should be changed?
I am trying to decide what engine I am gonna use in mine, I am thinking about a G-23 or a Fugi BT-32B!!
I have a Fugi in my Patty Wagstaff 1/4 Scale and I like it!!
Please let me know if you have had any problems with your or if there is anything that needs to be changed in the Kit!!

Thanks for your information! It will help me out alot

Hi Baker, The kit actually went together very well. It was my first large scale warbird and I could have done a better job on the sheeting, but that wasn't the kit's fault.
The one thing if you're going to use a gas engine to consider would be to make a cut out between the wing center and the outer wing for some sort of a continuous spar. I was uncomfortable with just gluing the outer panels on and trusting the fiberglass tape to provide the strength so I ran a 1/4 inch plywood spar about six inches on each side of the joint. I used plywood to allow for the dihedral of the outer wing. I also mounted both elevator servos in the tail, but would look at carbon push rods and standard servo location if I were doing it again (The US 41 weighs 4.5 lbs - so I needed tail weight).
Either of the engines you mentioned will pull it very well and you will love the way it flys. At half throttle, mine is very tame - at full throttle is looks like a Reno racer.

Thanks Foxx - she's been a fun airplane. My first warbird - named it Miss Susan after my wife. She thought that was so great I haven't gotten too much flack on all the ones that followed. Only downside is - every time I come home from a warbird meet the first question is "You didn't crash my plane did you?"

I have the Top Flight 60 size P-47 and the MW T-6. The P-47 is easier to land. If built with flaps, it will really slow down. The T-6 will really accelerate on final approach unless you have a shallow approach angle. If you let it get a little fast, it wants to float a long way before touchdown.

Eddie - I used standard Hitec 77BB's one on each elevator half, Hitec 645MG on the rudder, Hitec 605's on the ailerons and Hitec 425's on the throttle and gear switch. Since it is stripped of electronics now to glass, I plan to go back with Hitec 635's on everything except throttle and gear.

Lear31A - the saito 180 should be plenty of power for the T-6 (especially on 30%) - it should fit totally inside the cowl and offer you the opportunity to run scale exhaust exit if you want. It's light enough to keep the servos inside the center section and will most likely require some nose weight. I have seen one fly on the 182 twin and it flew very well.
