I'm going to strap my AIPTEK PenCam ($29.99 at Walmart) onto my WM Cub, and take some shots of our club field... The digital camera is small, and takes 320X320 still shots, or 7 seconds of AVI.... I'm doing this wednesday, weather permitting, I post the shots.

How are you going to trigger the camera?

What would be perfect would be a small digital camera like the pencam, with a lead that could plug straight into a receiver channel to trigger it. I dont see why one of the electronics guru's couldnt come up with something.

How are you going to turn the little bugger ON, 'cause it has that stupid auto-shutdown! Think taping the on/off button down will do it?? I bought one a couple of weeks ago after seeing some shots on rec.rc.air... But HIS camera had better resolution than 320x320!!

FriesHoo,

Let us know how that works out. Our Wally World has them, but they are $39.95. We pay more for everything here....:-(

I was thinking about getting the smallest, cheapest 35 mm camera I could find and just trigger it with a small servo.

Small cheap 35mm camera with auto-wind, that is what I use.

K-mart about $30.00-$40.00 add small servo and build a box around it.

That's a beautiful camera pod. Nice work! Does it affect the flight characteristics of the plane much?

Thanks
This is the second one I built. The first one was a simple square box and flight characteristics were NOT GOOD. This one I rounded the front and tapered the back to make it more aerodynamic. Flyes much nicer.
Here is a photo taken with this camera on a different plane.
The actual photo looks better than this scanned one. :

A friend of mine mounted a 35mm camera in the side of a Quaker and takes pics with it. Surprisingly they turn out okay. He works the push button with a piece of dowel attached to a spare servo.

FriesHoo,
Let us know how the PenCam works, I have been looking at these every time I go to WallMart. Thought about trying one myself. I want to put a digital in the air, but don't want to use my 2 mega pixel FUJI. To many $$$ if I lose it.
