Lets see...a 4 channel set up...throttle, steering, trim, and drive controls...SWEET!

Status: offline 		The plastic Graupner unit won't last very long with a 260 in front of it,you need a MHZ pump. There have been a few of these built in the past year or so,they work pretty well,but not being legal in any race class haven't generated much of a following ,the speed is reasonable but the jaded anal retentive speed freaks complain its not fast enough.

with pond space at a premium ( this could happen in a pond 1/4 the size of a full sized race course). why not set a sprint boat series like the aussies and the new zealanders do very small twisty courses speed for a jet is around 35-40 mph max but in a small course wow what a ride. boats run individual laps so the collision factor is eliminated. there is an all stainless steel pump made in australia which is top quality and very durable.
rules might be
1. 1/4 scale boats
2. gasoline engines up to 35cc any make
3. jet pump drive
4. co driver must call course just like the full sized boats

Status: offline 		whats suprises me more than anything is the fackt that one can be made using a 3 or 4 blade prop inside of the thrust vecter,those guys figured it out but they only took it the one step and made more surface and less pich. its not even a "true" jet on that fact becouse all they did is duct a normle prop then tweak the prop a little

Status: offline 		Actually, it is a jet by definition. Pressurizing a bowl with water, then forcing it thru a nozzle for thrust, is a boat "jet drive" by definition.

And if you look closely, the difference between the 2 pics, is that the "real" impeller, just has a housing ring around it, and the model one doesn't.

Just an observation...

FYI - I have purchased a few of the Swashdrive boats RTR minus motor with plenty of change from $2k. Worth every penny in my book.

Status: offline 		I'm not an expert but have run a few fast 1-1 jet boats and in my experiance there good fun and fast in flat water but once it gets a bit rough as soon as the hull leaves the water you loose drive and the engine over revs. Ends up with the engine note cycling up and down, this will limit top speeds (and in a 1-1 boat is uncomfortable).

Would be fun to build one though!!

That "housing ring" is part of the impeller, its all one peice.

The rc version is a real jet drive, it's just not totally accurate by using that prop.

Status: offline 		I have installed the Graupner Jet drive and found it to be very well built. True the housing is plastic, but he shaft is set in 3 bearings front middle and back, so with proper maintainance, this should last a long time.

Its a tricky install and I added a small bulkhead between the stringers for extra support.

Two small rudders straddle the thrust and vector it for steering. The reverse cup is very effective and fun for trick driving.

Overall I think this is a great drive and you can get a bakers dozen of them for the price of the competitors drives.

Status: offline 		I built that boat for a customer. He was planning to put a zen 260 in it. I am hoping he will send some pics when it is all set up. I charge $299 (for the drive and labor/materials to install it) for that option on any of my boats which will fit it. That particular model was a 43 v-hull.

Status: offline 		Just the jetdrive and installation of same into any boat. You supply or buy the boat you want it in.

I was not trying to sell here in the forum (though we do sponsor it). I just wanted people to know that I was impressed by the Graupner drive. I felt that with its solid shaft, heavily molded composite case and 3 bearing setup it was deserving of a better mention than bajabob-delete gave it. There is "Plastic" then there is "well engineered composite mechanical devices" The heavy .90nitro rated Graupner jetdrive is definately the later. It comes assembled and ready to install. The structure lends itself to being glassed and bolted in place then fits up to a 1/4" drive shaft with a standard ferrel. I cannot see any reason to believe that this drive will fail from standard running attached properly to a zen 260.

To be fair, I have not seen or touched the MHZ drive or others that are available. But, seeing the prices they are charging for them is enough for me to choose the Graupner drive soley based on the Quality and Afordability factors upon which I built my business.

Status: offline 		BTW - it is not the Graupner drive (though they sell it). The manufacturer is jet-drive.de
Graupner also uses 28 mm jet from the same company in couple of their boat models. (wonder why they are not using their own)

Status: offline 		I have built 2 MHZ Jet boats. One with there Jet 2 and the other Jet 3, there copy of the Hamilton Jet Pump.



I now am building a Jet sprint boat from Scorpion Marine with a SWASHPUMP from AU.
The trim and the differnt pitches of imppelers is worth the added money over the MHZ pumps.
