I fully intendended to do a complete photo shoot during construction of this ship, but failed miserably due to a tight time scale to finish the beast for the first of the U.K. Team Trials last weekend. Anyway here are some pics. of what we ended up with. I think it must be a first to compete at this level with a model that had only been in the air for 10 minutes prior to the event. we DID manage all three rounds without anything coming adrift. The plane is finished in 2 Pack Acrylic with a combination of glass and Silkspan for the base.

Hi Jon

In reply to your quiry the engine is a YS 140 Dingo, we are currently flying with a 15-1/2 x 13N apc prop to keep a light load until we have a couple of gallons through it, then we start playing. The weight is sore point as currently it is 5.2 Kg but with some messing we feel we can achieve 5Kg. even if we have to build a new wing. Some of the kit wood was pretty solid, and this goes for the wing sheet in part as well. Span is 1970mm and length is 1985mm with the FAI spinner. If I was scratch building I'm fairly sure to take a full kilo off the weight. The fuselage is engineered like a box girder bridge. It would be of interest to know just what I could get away with structure wise on the wing. The Kit used 2mm Skins. In the past I've been O.K. with 1.6mm contest grade balsa, but nothing quite this big, only on 120 size models about the size of the Elan. Any feedback on this will be appreciated, you do not know if you have reached the limit until it breaks. There is just too much cost and effort in this sort of ship to get things wrong. We are thinking of coming up with a bit smaller wing anyway to clean up the snaps. More taper and a bit less span seems to be the current trend. The design is pretty true straight off, a slight amount of down couple with rudder seems to be all there is at this early stage. First flight only required 2 clicks of Aileron trim and this was probably due to the rushed setup at the end of last week.

HI Zotandy
How does this plane perform in vertical downline? From the pics, it seems a really-fat plane with lots of cross-section area. Does it fly like those chunky european peers or just is a typical Jap plane in the wrong suit?

Hi

The plane definately picks up a bit of speed in the down lines, although it is fairly chunky, but we still do not have the right prop on it. However there is nothing really rushed. It is certainly more of a typical Japanese plane. We just need to come to terms with the right throttle management. Lets say at the moment we feel there is lots of potential. In the U.K. we get a fair bit of wind compared to continental Europe so the ability to fly a bit faster could turn out to be somthing of an advantage.

Hi Wolf

We Used the M.K. Mount on the Dingo and its seems O.K. but it is still early days. We were noise tested at last weeks competition and came in at 93.7 dBa. We have a slight knock on the plywood engine bearer plate that comes with kit from the side of the crankcase just below the centre mounting on the M.K. Mount. We intend to relieve the ply plate a bit in this area for greater clearance as the engine rocks a bit in a sideways direction at low revs. In Fact the plate needs a bit of clearance anyway to get clearance on the slightly larger centre on the crankcase of the .140. We stayed with the M.K. mount for speed on the construction because that is what it is designed around at the front. We now are only using the rear header bracket as it was too rigid with both as shown in the photo

hi Zot
in order to reduce rocks at low rpm we use glow driver from microsens ,the glow 4b, because at low rpm YS engine lost some spark and this is one cause of rocks. we reach a stable 1.800 rpm with wery little rocks. http://members.aon.at/microsens/english.html.
You use kato elevator coupler or double servo?

Hey Zo,
How much of the kit is pre-constructed. The last MK kit I did was an Aurora and nothing was built for you.
Thanks
