Can you recommend a certain servo or radio... I'm new to the hobby so I don't know a whole lot.

The roll bars are broken Is there any where to buya new cage? The front bumper is missing. I figured I would have to build something for that .... What is the satus and history with Raco Jack rabbits? It looks to bve a quality unit ..... I heard the company that made them was out of business.... Any Advice would be helpful Thanx . Dan

Welcome to jacrabbits! New cages are rare. Keep an eye on ebay. Where is your broken at? A man named Wolfgang bought all the last rabbit parts. He still has some available at www.raco.co.at . One of the cool things about jacrabbits are their big and strong with a simplistic design. This means your local hardware store and some clever thinkin can fix just about anything with it. Let me know if you need any help in particular...PB

Here is an update on the Jack Rabbit project. I installed the new radio / receiver and the stearing still did not work. I found out I had one bad servo. It was set up for two with a y-cable. I am going to try it with just one. I just fabricated a horn but don't have it working yet.

Will it work?

Dan

I've read through the earlier postings on wiring but I still have a couple newby questions. Do I need to use a Y-harness on both servos or just the steering one? And if I do use them on both, how do I connect both servos to the battery?

I just found this diagram, is this pretty much how I want to do it except with only one steering servo?http://www.rctek.com/phpBB/album_page.php?pic_id=23

i use a y-harness. one side goes to the battery direct, one side runs to the servo direct, and the other plugs into the reciever in the normal spot for that servo. you do not plug in a battery to the reciever at all. this bypasses the bec function and gives the servos full power. having a normal set up ie: 10th scale will end up burning up the reciever from too much power drain from the servos. heres a pic to maybe help..... PB

If you only want to use the y-harness on the steering servo, You plug in your servo, plug in a wire running to your battery direct, then plug the harness into the steering spot on your receiver. Do not plug in the battery on the receiver.

Thanks for the help Paulie, would I want to wire the throttle/brake servo directly to the battery (y-harness) also?

If you are using a y-harness on the throttle/brake servo too than yes. Did that help?

Yes, Thanks for the help Paulie, I just got all my needed parts for Christmas and I'm hooking it all up and I don't want to mess up!
My LHS "expert" recommended a couple Hobbieco CS-73 2BB servos and a 4.8V, 2700mAh battery. Do you think they'll work?

I wouldn't use the CS-73. Unless thats the best they have in stock. 4.8v is not enough for that servo (153 oz.). I would run it at 6v (181oz.). Better yet pick up the Tower TS-80. Even at 4.8v it puttin out 275oz. torque. 343oz. @ 6v. The TS-80 is $29 and it comes with the y-harness. Good luck, where the pix at???PB

Awesome thread, I just spent an hour reading every post. I got my JR in 1992 and had a ton of fun with it bashing offroad, running on blacktop and snow and ice. I put ice racing screws for motorcycles in the tires and it would really hook up and fly on the ice. I was a photography major in college so I had this old 8mm camera that I would mount to the top of the rollcage and take "in car film". Now I've got an old vhs-c camcorder I'll mount on it and try. It is the most durable car I've owned, once it glitched and went straight into a curb at full speed, flipping about six feet in the air and just bent up the front bumper. I made front and rear wings for it, a small hood scoop, covers for the outsides of the wheels to keep dirt from packing up in them and some guards for below the carb and the header to keep dirt out of the chassis.

Seeing all this interest in such an old car has motivated me to clean mine up and get it ready to run. It only needs a steering servo and some minor cosmetic and mechanical work, but I'll strip it to the chassis and clean everything up, switch to fm rx and fail safe from the old am airtronics and get it going. I'll post some pics when its done.
