Status: offline 		I finally bought my first 1/3 scale

I have a question for the experts (JohnVH et all)

Are there 2 versions of this plane. The one I recieved has a blue ring on the tip of the cowl in addition to the red, while some others have an all red cowl.
Also, the bottom of the wings on my plane are all blue versus other ones that have blue & white piano stripes...

I would love to go the DA-100 route but somehow I can't justify the cost of spending additional $650 on the plane in relation to a ZDZ-80.

One final question, what are your thoughts on getting the adapter kit that Chief sells for $80.
My thoughts, since all of the H9 1/3 scales are designed around a Zenoah GT-80, the adapter might be a wise investment for future H9 planes too.

Status: offline 		I would go with the ZDZ 80 after seeing JohnVH video t-rolling the SUkhoi, I can't see spending 650 more dollars on the DA after seeing how good the 80 performed on his Sukhoi.

As far as I know there are only one version of this plane, maybe someone else painted the cowl of yours?

I have flown mine for a year with the zdz80 on it, and now I put a DA100 on it.. Its a whole new beast.. I think it flew a bit better (lighter feeling) on the zdz, but I like the 100 power much better. The 80 was enough to make it hover and pull out and all manuevers, but it got very slow on the uplines. Especially in the warm summer months!

I may convert it to single aileron servo's (8611's) like I did on the cap, and get some carbon parts for it and lipoly batt's to see if I can pull a bit of weight off it, but it doesnt need to have it done.

I need to make a new vid to compare with my older ones with the 80 on it for those to see. The 100 is alot of fun! But, if your on a budget the 80 will fly it good.

It seems similar to what Chief is selling...only cheaper.

John, I am also planning to go 8611's for ailerons & rudder and 8411's for elevators. Lightening as per Troy built models.

My friend flew one with a ZDZ-80 and thought it was a beast. Unfortunately he crashed it on the maiden flight because of reversed ailerons

Sometimes even the best pilots make dumb mistakes.

Finally got a chance to test fly mine with a ZDZ 80. I agree that for the extra money of the twin, the ZDZ 80 is an excellent choice. Could easily torque roll and pull away. I am using a Mejzlik 26x10 as recommended by Mike McConville. Supposed to be much warmer this weekend, I plan on giving it another try.

Also, when you put single servos for the ailerons are you locating them in the center of the airleron? I feel several of the servos available have plenty of power for this size plane if properly located and set up.

For a single aileron servo, mount it inside of center a little.

The ZDZ is a good engine, dont get me wrong, but if I were you, id get the DA. The DA is much easier to install in other airplanes, and would be best on other slightly larger 35% aircraft. If you really cant afford it, by all means get the ZDZ. Just something to think about for the future.

A friend of mine had the Sukhoi with the 3W 106 in it..what a rocket :P

Status: offline 		I hope not to get too off topic on this but what would you gents suggest for servos' DESIDES Jr's on it? I am contemplating Hitec 5945's maybe? Can I get away with cheaper ones like the 5645mg's?

I plan on getting this plane this summer as my first 33% Got my fingers crossed! ZDZ80 for me as well

Status: offline 		Putting one together now. Planning on ZDZ 80 and 5645's on all surfaces except rubber which will use 5735. A fellow club member has been flying his for 1 1/2 years w/ 5645's with no problems to date. 5945's are better but are not necessary in my opinion.

Status: offline 		I found out that the ring was painted in an auto shop. It looks beautiful though...a little personal touch.

I have no time to build (or assemble as the kit builders would put it).

I am planning to go JR 8611's on the ailerons. Too much work to center them so I will just stick them in the outer (towards wingtip) servo bays.

Status: offline 		Myself and another in the local club are running HS5625's all around except rudder (5735). Mine is with ZDZ 80 and the other is ZDZ100. I think mine flys better, and is about a pound lighter.
