Anyone else doing this? System used? Results?
I have 3 different systems ranging from the pinhole camera/tx all in one setup (junk) to one using a ccd 480 lines of res camera and a half watt 900mhz transmitter which I purchased from SuperCircuits. Havent really gotten that one off the ground yet due to using an aircraft that wasnt up to the task. Have since switched to a Sig Kadet Sr ARF which will work well, once I get the THIRD replacement wing. Whole nother story there for a different forum!
The middle system I am currently using and having pretty good success with uses a pinhole camera with a separate 800mw transmitter. It downlinks to a receiver that I have feeding into my digital camcorder. VERY impressive for a $25 system! I have included a picture of it mounted to the top of my Super Scooter combat glider.

The media file is a little darker than the actual video that was shot. I have since learned to correct that during rendering. Hey, its a learning process!
I cant wait to get the GOOD system into the air!

No servo needed. Just fire up the camcorder, plug in the 9v battery, check the picture and toss the plane off the hill.I suppose I can add an electronic switch and plug it in to an unused channel so I can turn the video power on and off but havent felt the need. Camcorder stays on the ground connected to the video receiver. The wireless video just runs till I land and unplug the power or the battery dies. I think I got a solid 30 minutes or so of video before the battery took a dump.

First system was one of those all in one craparoony deals. Bad picture, worse range. Not sure if it was one of those 200mw systems. Probably less. Junk.

System I used for the airborne video on my website was a pinhole camera (320 line res) w/separate tx supposed to run 800mw on 1.2ghz. Not bad for the $30 plus $35 shipping. Its pretty light as is and I was able to tape it to the top of my combat glider with the addition of an EPP "hood" to prevent glare (these cameras are notorious for glare) and hopefully protect it from collision. Full speed nose in to the slope resulted in a 10' rebound but no damage. I plan to upgrade the camera with one of those Panasonic cameras that BlackwidowAV.com sells. The airborne part of the system is powered with a 9v transister battery. The receiver on the ground can be powered by the same but I use the 12 tractor battery in my flight box. The receiver has video and audio line out which I jack into my camcorder. The airborne system has a mic attached to the camera but the tx isnt set up for audio. Dont know why. Bought a second system and did away with all the RCA connectors to save weight and make it easier to configure for different aircraft. These are nice and light so I use em for slope combat video.
I also have a $400 system I purchased from SuperCircuits ( http://www.supercircuits.com) with a 480 line res micro camera and half watt 900mhz tx. The camera and tx are fairly small but need 12v to run which means a 10 cel nicad pack. Too heavy for a glider but I plan to replace that with a Li-Poly pack in the future. Currently being installed in a Kadet Senior ARF and I HOPE to try it out next weekend. Ground tests look promising. GREAT picture. Got the camera mounted in a servo in the wing which allows me to pan front to rear. The receiver runs off 12v and has 4 channels and two a/v line outs. This system will transmit audio but you need a pre-amped mic. You have to search their website to find this actual system. I believe BlackWidow AV sells the components also. ( http://www.blackwidowav.com) The system cost me $349 plus shipping.


The 800mw system that shot the video on my site was purchased on Ebay from Spylinker. They sell these things constantly and the prices vary. They also sell one that runs a watt and a half but I havent tried that one. Do an Ebay search by seller for Spylinker. A picture of this system mounted on the top of my Super Scooter is attached to the first post in this thread.

Status: offline 		what is the range on those systems? I have thought about getting one to put on my Sig Fazer but haven't found one with a good range on it.
