Use the lowest nitro% fuel you can find but one with at least 20% oil and preferably at least half the oil is castor. Personally I use 80/20 all castor but I mix it myself.
I'm not familiar with American fuels but from my reading it seems there are a number of highly regarded fuels such as SIG, Byron, Wildcat and Powermaster. My choice would be Powermaster GMA 5% nitro, 22% oil (50/50 synthetic/castor). Remember, you're not just running in the piston/liner but both ends of the conrod and that takes much longer to do properly.
But whatever fuel you buy don't get any that doesn't state clearly on the label exactly what's in it.

Hello!
Here in Eorupe most people use The new syntetic oils from Graupner called "Aerosynt 2" and aerosave and the French Motul racing oil brand who makes an oil that is called "Micro" made specificly for glowengines.
These all syntetic oils are used in quantities as low as 6% in both twostrokes as well as in fourstrokes but most people prefere 10-15% oil.
Castor oil is a thing of the past
After more than 27 years in this hobby I only use it in my pylonracing engines (F3D) as the rules are a little oldfashioned and only permits castor oil!
In all of my sport aircraft from the smallest COX .49 engine to my largest MVVS 1,50 engine in a SIG CAP 231 EX I use 15% Motul " Micro" oil and 5% nitro.!
And belive me I take out horsepower from my engines!
Still the engines are as new when looking inside them , that was not the case when I run on castor oil...well all my engines worked perfectly then too....the difference now is that there is no carbon built- up inside and that the throttle respons has improved markedly for some engines like the MVVS engines I have used ( .40, .49 , 1,44 twin, and the 1.50 single).

Why so many Americans still hang on to 20%castor and castor/ syntetic mixes pussles me???
Haven`t you tried the ne syntetic oils????
Try the Motul "Micro" oil and you will not use anything else in your glowengines!
You will find the Motul brand of oil in every motorcycle shop!

I'm a firm believer in Synthetic oils as that is all I use in my vehicles & lawn-gas motors. I use Amsoil & have been sold on its' performance in many ways for years. Great stuff for extended oil drain intervals which saves me time & work. Jan I was wondering how you mix your fuel?

jaka -> OS 61FX Breaking in? (7/20/2002 1:29:56 PM)

Hello!
Its really very simple......
I just have 1 liter plastic jar that I mix my fuel in.
It has 1 dl markings on it...
I pour in 15% ( 1,5dl) oil, then 80% Methanol( 0,8dl) and then
5% nitro (0,5dl) to get a 5% nitro mix which is a perfect mix for most engines.

And please try the new syntetics the Motul "Micro" ,i ts working perfectly!!!

Thanks Jan, I'll give it a try as I find the necessary fluids to mix. The Synthetic oil is a winner by my standards. Did you ever hear of Amsoil Synthetic products for cars, trucks, motorcycles, & any other 2 or 4 cycle eengine lubrication purpose?

I've flown my FX nearly 150 flights with Byron's 10%-20% & it works great for me. Just tune the engine so it always smokes a little.

Hallo Berniem!

I saw that my writing was a little bit wrong ...it should be
8 dl Methanol instead of 0,8dl !
As for Amsoil oil products...No! I have not seen this brand of oil in Sweden.
