So they are now done. Although looking at some other threads on here and elsewhere on the web. I have noticed that some people have done the elevators a little different at the edges, taking some of the elevator stab and adding to the actual elevator.

this is a couple of photos of "TUBIG'S" build of his Top Flite Spitfire, you can see how he has changed the tips. I am now pondering on doing it this way or the plan way.

PS: "Tubig" I hope there is no copyright on those images, I only borrowed them honest

Hi Keith

I will see if there is one at Sandown in the morning for you. Will give you a call tomorrow evening and let you know. Looking good by the way, keep it up.

Cheers

Luis

Thanks buddy that would be nice if they have some. I dont want to know too much about Sandown this year as I cannot make it Boo Hoo.
But I shall hopefully be making the Nationals though.

Keith, I just had a look at some pics in my Spit books and the MK IX's had the elevators like Tubig's while the Mk V's had them like yours are done. I stand corrected, but that's what I've just seen in the books. Maybe someone else has an idea.

The mkix had the elevators both ways and they had rounded and pointed rudders too. There were combinations of all four variations so just go by the actual plane you are modelling.
Good Luck
Paul

i'm using a MkIX in the Malta Aviation Museum as my "prototype". here is a shot of that elevator. i wanted to do the enlarged "pointy" rudder as well since TF has enlarged the tailfeathers by 20% but i've not been able to find a MkIX in trop scheme with the enlarged rudder so i'll be doing the rounded one. i would just say what has already been said in that find a plane you want to copy and do what it has.

Hi Dave, nice photos glad you had a nice day. Looking at the photos shows that the weather must have been great for you. Did you treat yourself to anything for you or your son whilst you were there? any new gadgets ?

Have your flown any of your new models yet and if so what's the report ?

Well I had plans of going to Sandown myself this morning but seeing as i only got in from Oz this morning at 0515 and the fact that the idiot (curry muncher) on the hotel desk had never heard of Sandown let alone tell me what train/bus whatever to take to get there I decided it was all too hard, so shower, brekkie and sleep won over.

Will try and figure out how to get up to Duxford in the morning to have a look over some real Spits.

cheers - this time from the UK - well at least until Fri night LOL

Peter

how about the RAAF Mk VIII "grey Nurse? OR convert yours to a Mk XIV Griffon engined version? Same wing just change the cowl to include some "bulges" and enlarge the rudder accordingly

Okay, well today I have done a bit on the rudder stab but have come to a problem that I dont quite understand so perhaps some people on here will be able to help me. I shall post the photos then put a new post saying what my problem is as I dont know how to add photos in line with certain text. (if anyone can shed any light on that it would be useful to know)

Okay my problem that I dont understand is that on the instructions it is asking me to fit the Fin LE onto the fin LE core, BUT the Fin LE core has got a profile shape to it and if i glue it on the shape of the core will be lost. am I right in thinking, just glue it on then later shape it. You can see the piece with the pink dots on it that has to fit onto where the arrows are showing.

Any help be great as I am now stuck for the time being. Have not finished on the elevator yet as waiting for my LHS to get the Robart drill jig in for me. Oh and on another note, just ordered one of those Ikarus Shockflyers, they sure look like fun.

One other problem, on a completly different subject. I use Windows XP Pro and Internet explorer. I like to use the command "open in new window" when viewing certain pages. but it keeps opening maximised. Anyone know the secret to making the pages open a lot smaller so I dont have to keep going back and forth o the main page.

Many thanks.

I know it has something to do with the top left corner size, move box etc, but cannot work it out.
