Another one bites the dust: A loop turned out to be a 9 when she didn't want to pull up at the bottom and met with terra firma.

Man, you certainly destroyed that one! Any ideas what the problem was? Started too low? Didn't pull the power off on the downline? Not enough elevator throw? If you had full elevator in and it didn't snap roll, you didn't have enough throw My WM 120 size Ultimate snaps on elevator alone at the recommended elevator throw and c/g.

I had just reduced the right thrust of the plane and was re-trimming it. Got it trimmed and flying straight and thought I'd try some loops. Started the loop about 50 feet up and 50 feet in front of me. Trottled down when the plane started the downline. Plane started to level out a bit but then suddenly did a snap roll and spiraled to the ground. Not too much air between the bottom of the loop and the ground so it happened rather quickly. I was careful not to feed in too much elevator as this plane snaps easily on too much elevator. I guess I should have taken it higher to test it out. Too used to flying this plane close in (small plane). : At least the walk of shame was a short one.

DOH! Hate that. Are you going to fix it, or is it beyond repair? Shame if it is.....these WM ARF's are superb models.

Not sure yet if I will fix it. Not really up to it right now. Maybe in a couple of months time. I will have to agree with you on the WM planes being superb models. Other than the Ultimate, I have flown the Super Sports 40 and Zen 50. Both planes are excellent. My buddies fly their Mentor, Cap 232, Rambler, etc and they all have only good things to say.

The thing for me is that I couldn't possibly build them for the price they are. It would cost me way more! Because of where I live, I don't have ready access to a 'large' hobby shop. The closest one is only 30mins drive, but they're only a small shop and their prices aren't super competitive.....they don't have to be....there's no competition around here! Plus, the covering job is first class on both the WM planes I've got. Covering is one of my least favourite tasks The other WM plane I have is the Super Sports Senior. I'll certainly be getting more WM planes as money and space permits

Hi Mrbonk,

I am in the same predicament as you are. Where I am from, there are only a couple of hobby shops in town and we are talking Capital City. Prices are high and when you couple that with the lower per capita income here, it makes it doubly expensive! That is the reason I got into this hobby so late. Was interested since I was a young boy but the cost kept me away (30 years). (Okay, there were the girls, the work, the girls, the marriage, no more girls and the kids as well!)

Anyway, told myself it's now or never (2 years ago). Told the wife it's cheaper than golf.

Well, in all honesty, that's most likely the absolute truth!

What engine were you using in your Ultimate? Just curious.

Use to have a Super Tiger 40 on it until the prop washer broke and couldn't find the replacement parts. At the time of the crash, I had a OS46LA up front.

On_Final,

Don't feel bad. I crashed my WM 30 Ultimate, too. I had a Fox 40 in it and had about 5 flights. On my last flight, my eyes got blinded by the sun momentarily. I throttled down and went downfield. I was low and stupidly did a spit S. Could not tell the orientation 'cause eyes had not fully recovered. It crashed and ripped out the wings. I have not rebuilt it even though it's very repairable. I think this model is too small and squirrelly. I wasn't too impressed with its lack of smoothness in aerobatics. It sure was touchy and would rather snap than any other maneuvers.

Hi Bob,

Yes, the plane was touchy and not exactly a precision acrobat. But it was fun throwing it around the sky close in. Snaps real well even when you are not telling it to!

Anyway I get enough stress and #@&% from work. I am in this hobby for fun and relaxation. So don't worry and be happy! Look on the bright side. I now have engine/receiver/servos just waiting for another plane. And it sure is fun looking.
