This weekend I watched an arf powered by a super tiger and proped with a 9/7 top at 156MPH i'm wondering if 175.00 is possible with any arf and any engine. doesn't have to be a q500.

The deltas like the Diamond Dust and the Whiplash will do 175+ ... the Dust is built up, but the Whiplash (advertised here - check the Advertiser List at the top of the page), an all molded composite plane, will do 175+ with the right engine.

What kind of ARF did you see fly? A Predator? If it wasn't a Quickie 500, I need to move this thread to the General Racing Discussion forum.

In an ARF?

The closest you will come to in an ARF that doesn't have to be painted is a NEME-Q, V-Max, or Vortex ... with a Quickie-JETT or Nelson Q-500 engine on it. Note that the above planes are beyond an ARF ... they are bolt on the engine, install the radio and fly. You can then do 165-175 with a standard format AMA 428 plane. The planes range from $450-600. See the list of Q-500 Planes.

There are no ARF's in the Q40 world, but there are quite a few that only require paint ... and from what I've been told, a Sidewinder by Jerry Small for $500 is ready to bolt the engine in and screw the servos down, and go fly. Clean it well before you paint it though. I think it is all white ... many of the all molded composites are all white or shades of white. Lyle Larson of California Speed Pros will build and paint you a plane to completion. Add a JETT QM-40 or Nelson Q40 engine and you will be ready to do 175+ ... Use an APC Carbon Fiber Q40 prop and a full tuned pipe, and you can get close to or over 200, at least in a shallow descent. See the list of QM-40 Planes.

The FAI F3D planes are beyond 175 also ... my list is incomplete, but Big Bruce Racing Products has a lot of variants of the Evolution that you might find interesting. See the list of F3D Planes

Unless the plane is purpose built for 175+ speeds, it will not last long and may be dangerous to all involved in many ways. Also, there is a reason that pilots who fly model turbine jets must get a sign-off and waiver.

Weston Magnum.

Check the speed prop plane forum for some background. One of the Jet manufacturers imports it, but I am not sure who.

JD Enterprises imports the Magnum http://jdenterprise.net/ . Also, there is a built F1 plane for sale on the Jett site: http://www.jettengineering.com/
