I just received my Wing Mfg. P-38 kit . Is anybody experienced with this kit? I am wondering what engines will work best. I have a set of Spring Air retracts. I would like to install a couple of YS 63 4 strokes inverted but not sure which way the plane turns out nose or tail heavy. I have a Grumman F6F from Wing and love it. Greg

If you go to the back issues of RC Report, they have a good review of that kit.
It builds tail heavy. Adding retracts will take a little more planning as you build. Go with small high torque servos. Do not suggest that you use only one servo for the engines. Too much slop and looseness in the linkage.
Use two servos for the elevator or a very stiff elevator. If not, you will have elevator flutter.
Have you flown twins before? This is not a beginners twin to learn on. It will snap roll faster than you can imagine if you lose and engine.
It will also land faster than most trainers can fly. flaps are a good idea, but will strain your creative ideas to install with retracts.
Having said that, there is nothing so distinctive and show stoping at the field as the P-38.

i've built thi model found it easy and quick to do.used the cheap robarts for mains and spring air for nose. sub c 4.8 volt 13 servos os fx 46 for power. needed no nose weight, and was a very stable flier. never had it snap once. slow and easy to land with flaps but don't use flaps if one engin dies. the 4 strokesyou intend to use seem to me a bit to much both on power and weight. the 46's were more than quick enough. you blink and it was gone.fling was done on third throttle with all manorvuors being done on not much more than 1/2. hope this helps

I had one with the Spring Air Retracts and YS 53s inverted. It flew really well with that combination and wasn't nose heavy. With those engines though, there was a lot of vibration so you need to make sure everything is tightened down really well. I lost the plane due to the retract air valve swich coming loos in flight. I tried to lower the gear for landing and nothing happened. It didn't like the belly landing and, as I picked up the pieces, I noticed the retaining nut on the valve switch had vibrated off. When the servo pushed the switch, it pushed the whole valve. OOPS. It flew really well though.
