the camera could be put under the body so that a roll would not affect it. It could also be covered with foam, with a small hole for the lens. If your worried about dirt, it can always be covered with a plastic bag. If weight is an issue, Putting it in the centre under the body would vurtualy eliminate disturbance.

You can mount it behind the front bumper if there is sufficient space - use a pinhole camera that can see through a gap of only 1.6mm. That way, you could foam all but the smallest gap and the camera still has a good viewing angle.

My friend and I were talking about something similar the other day. I think it was his new Futaba controller that birthed the idea.

An onboard fiber-optic camera through the front bumper.
A LCD screen as used as ICE now on the back of the controller.

I would think that the camera would be too prone to the movement though.

A guy built exactly what you're talking about but it's in the giant scale forum like Hyper10-3speed said. The controller & video equipment is in a trailer. Here's a link http://www.video-karting.com/. Here's a link to the thread. Enjoy.

Ok, three questions:

1) Where did you get the system?

2)How much $$$?

3)Did it cause any kind of radio interference? (I'll be putting this one on my 1/8 scale and go flyin' )

Very good movie BTW!

I have found that the more solidly you mount this setup the better the picture quality, haven't tried it on any of my nitro vehicles as yet. It would be easy enough to make a small metal cage to protect cam from rollover damage. will get back to you after trying on nitros.

I will be doing this very soon. It's a wireless pinhole color camera. I will be putting it on my micro rs4 while I bash with a few others at around 45mph (brushless). My friends and I will be doing this in a few cars so we can make a video similar to the drift video with the in-car shots. It's very inexpensive to do. I originally planned to do this in my 1/8 nitro, but I had a hard time with interference when it would hit bumps or take jumps.

the more vibration free you mount the cam the less static you get. also I'm not sure if there is intermittent interference from the control signal, overall it's a fun deal .send me your email address and I'll upload a clip for you of driving across my yard and down the street.
