I have a H9 Cap 232 and I am wondering which engine is the best choice for this plane? Also, what kind of performance could I expect when comparing to say an OS160fx that generates twice the rpm on a smaller prop? Can I expect enlimited vertical? Or are these engines a better choice for a scale, non-aerobatic model?

The fact that you can swing a larger prop is of interest to me, but I am not sure what to expect for thrust

Hi Erick

The RCV engine range are equivalent to other 4-strokes of the same capacity. Therefore the 120-SP for example is equivalent to a conventional 120 4-stroke (or a 90 2-stroke). For this reason it is not really comparable to a 160 4-stroke engine (I assume this is the kit recommendation). We hope to produce larger engines in the future however at the moment we have the 60-SP, 90-SP, 120-SP & the new (more conventional looking) 58-CD.

In terms of comparing the engine to a conventional engine, the SP series has a 2:1 reduction gear, therefore the rpm at the prop is roughly half that of conventional engines. By using the large propellers this creates roughly twice the torque of conventional engines which together make them equivalent in power.

Finally the SP engines are good for general use and depending what model you use them in can perform many aerobatic &/or scale performances. They are obviously a great choice for scale due to their streamline nature. One of our display team has the 90SP in a cub and as part of his routine performs very unscale like actions such as prop hanging and vertical lifts etc.

I hope this helps, and hope that even though we currently do not have an enging to suit your H9 Cap 232, you may consider using an RCV in another application.
