Gentelmen,
Contemplating the next warbird project and have an interest in the Byron T-28 Trojan. Ironbay's website shows the specs to be very nice and the photo looks nice. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? I would live to see pictures and hear thoughts. Thanks.

I think they came out just before Byron decided to shift his interests away from models - too bad too because the T-28 is a nice flying bird. By the way, Pica's is going out of business, so there is one less T-28 on the market....

I am building one now from Iron-Bay models. Excellent model. I have installed there F-15 brake system. I am about 80% done on the building stage. Retacts installed. Setting on her own three wheels. Will be using a custom built Sphear 4.6 twin for power. Need to finish rudder and glass wings and tail feathers. Saw Bob Patterson's beautiful T-28 fly this week end at the Mint Julep and really got my juices going to finish this big bird. Contact Iron-Bay for delivery and pricing. I took all the options including the hard mount for the engine and the air brake. I am also using there wheels and tires. Love there complete kit concept.

Hey Gary,
How about some pictures. I'm sure we'd all love to see your progress. Is Iron Bay still selling the kit and accessories?

Yes, this is where I bought mine from. Iam presently redoing a little war damage on my Corsair, should be done in a couple of days. Will get photos then if thats OK.
this plane ought to fly very easily. I have owned a couple of the smaller Pica 1/5.5 scale T-28's and they have flown very well. Bob's designer scale 120" T-28 is a sight to see. GO Bob.

I'll try to get some pixs in a few. Were in the middle of getting our field, (Waco field in Troy, Ohio) ready for the XFC this week end. Chip Hide already arrived and flew today while we mowed and then I got a flight in on my Mustang tonight.
Chip is a site to behold. Man can this guy fly! It is so neat having them here at our flying field.

I just bought one off of RCU about three weeks ago. It only had four flights or so on it. When I received the plane it was covered in dust. The pwner past away and my guess he didn't do much flying. After cleaning it, the airframe looked good. I changed all the airlines, the person who had it used too many tees. One wing seemed to dip and i'm in the process of fixing. The flap servos were stripped so I replaced them. Also, the ignition box for the Sachs 4.2 was garbage. I've since replaced it and the engine runs tremendously. Anyway, it is a beutiful plane and I paid too much for it. There is a funfly this weekend and I plan to put a for sale sign on her or post it here on RCU. Hopefully it will be flying tomorrow. I know it will be a great flyer but I rather have a 47. Check out the link below to see what I bought. John

I would agree, if they wanted that much for it, it should have been RTF and clean like the pictures. Looks like it will make someone a nice plane.

Ok, everything is all set with the plane. Engine, retracts, speed brake all work great. I plan to have a test flight done tomorrow or Friday. After seeing everything work and cleaned up, I don't seem to regret the purchase as much. Well, let's see how she flys. John

Good luck with your Trojan, John. Can't wait to hear how it went. Anyone using a Zenoah G-80 twin on this. Not sure if it will fit or not.

Well, she flew today and it was awesome. Took off w/o flaps and it didn't need very much runway. Fly's very scale with the Sachs 4.2. Also, slows down very nicely but you will need to hold some power. Looks great in the air. The color scheme shows it nicely. Snap tests revealed you that you would have to slow the airplane to a crawl before she dips a wing. No bad habits that I could find. It's great pushing it through the pitts by the tail with out really bending over. Still may get rid of her beause of her size. John
