Hi, I was wondering if anybody can post any of their own Caliber 30 videos or give links of Cali vids. I had my heli for 1 year now and only started the engine ONCE! I didn't even fly it. I mastered it on the sim but i'm gettin really board of seeing virtual graphics. YOu see the prob is that i live in NY Queens and since I"mm only 14 I never had a chance to got to Brooklyn where the only Rc field in NYC EXISTS! That really pisses me off and now this summer i am hoping to try and ask my parents to drive me to the field. But just to kill time and fuel my heli passsion a little more. Can anyone please post some vids or links. Thanks

-David

David, I live in Queens too, I just sold a Cali30 and now have an EVO 50. Believe it or not, there ARE places to fly in Queens, Not far from Rego Park at all. I do most of my flying in Queens, only go to Brooklyn on some weekends.

David

Hroachen can you PLEASE tell me WHERE exactly. And I have another question? Isn't it illegal to fly a nitro heli without going to a club or special field

Okay, then nearest spot to you would be in Flushing Meadow Park where the U-Control guys fly their planes... It's not really a heli place, but most of the guys there are pretty cool about it and won't give a heli flier a hard time if you ask nicely. Most of them shop at the store where I work (Fantasia Hobby World)

I fly at Cunningham Park (by the corner of Francis Lewis and 73'rd Ave. on many weekday mornings. It's usually just me and my buddy Wes there, in the morning no one else is using the ballfields. In the evenings the ballplayers are all out there so I won't even show up with my stuff. The last thing I want is to be an annoyance to anyone who might complain. Flying at the ballfields is not strictly legal, but the few times the police have stopped while I was flying it was to ask questions about the heli and not to tell me to leave. IT's against the Parks Dept. rules to fly there, so I can't say it's something I recommend, but I live right there so I'll fly there until someone has a problem with it.

In Brooklyn it gets better... The PARCS at Floyd Bennett allow helis, but their rules are too restrictive (stand in this spot and only hover, or stand in this spot and only fly around in a circle, nothing else) Then there's the Seaview club flying at Cropsey Ave, but you have to park far from the flight area and carry your stuff a long way on foot unless you're in the club and get the parking permit and key to the gate. Best place in Brooklyn I think is the Marine Park club at Gerritsen Ave... Very friendly bunch and Saturdays are a mixed bag of airplanes and helis, and everyone gets along great.

Best bet if you're in Rego Park and not driving yet is to visit the U-Control circles at Flushing Meadow... I don't think they'd give you a hard time there, but be aware that it's officially a control-line site only, so AMA might not cover you if something were to happen and the heli got away, and the Van Wyck Expressway is pretty close to the field...

I'm working on forming a club, I'm just researching what's involved now, but I'll be looking to get a site in the Bayside area that I have my eye on... The area I have in mind is not under the control of the City, it's federally operated, and it's typically a lot easier to get permission from the fed than the NYC authorities. It'll be a while before this happens tho... I've got a BUNCH of research to do first.

Hi, I am familiar with the Marine Park club (rcsmp) I was planning to go there, but i am not sure when the heli instructors are there and what time they are there either, and you said your there on saturday, what time? I am in need of someone to make sure everything is ok with my heli before i fly it. And then i am looking forward to flying with you. As for the control line area and flushing meadow, i'll wait until i get more familiar with my caliber 30

If you'd like, you can bring your Caliber to the shop where I work, Fantasia Hobby in Flushing. I'm pretty familiar with the Caliber, having owned one recently. I work Tuesdays to Fridays, 2:30-6:15, and every other Sunday. I'd be happy to look it over for you. There are a few parks near the shop where we could sneak a test flight in after work if you're interested.

Hey,
I live in Queens too, actually i live close to Cunningham park too and i pass by every morning on the bus to school. Im looking to buy a heli soon. Iv seen someone flying a heli in cunningham all the time. Do you fly at the park closest to the school right off francis lewis? If you saw me i think you would recognize me cuz im in fantasia all the time. A closer field would be great, its a real pain to go to Brooklyn, which is why i now temp. fly in the Orchard Beach parking lot which is like 10min away and its a huge (usually less than half full) parking lot. Soon I cant fly there anywhere because when the weather gets nice the lot is gonna get packed.

helidreamer,

My name is David too, Fantasia is at 171-69 46th Ave. in Flushing, it's a block and a half west of Utopia on 46th Ave.

nmtr13,

I'm probably the person you're seeing flying at cunningham, I do fly mostly at the field closest to the school on Francis Lewis, if you see a red Toyota pickup parked by the opening in the fence it's me.

hroachen,

I'm the guy from kissena park. remember when you help me fixed my caliber 30, thanks man that was a big help. I still go there every weekends in the early mornings around 6-9am, theres also some airplane guys and one heli flyer there. I can hover now and starting to do the 8 it takes alot of practice man but thanks to the simulator its a big help. Sometimes we also go there around 6pm-9pm, so if you have time drop by and fly with us. I'm interested about your planning to form a club give me a shout here park police dont come until 9:30 am

Alrighty, I'll hop by your Shop, Hroachen and then we'll test my Cali in the park. And yes, if you want I can pay you. And after we sneak that test flight, nheli, you and me can all gather and fly our heli's togetcher or one by one (depending on our frequencies) on any day that we agree on. Mine by the way is 72 mhz what about you guys?

The store's website is http://www.fantasiahobby.com

No need for an appointment, but it might be good to call before you come to make sure I'm there and that we're not swamped.

David
