I was thinking today. My battery pack runs low really fast. I have a 1300mah 7.4v thunder pack lipo.

I got thinking. would it work out ok if I was to put another pack mabey even bigger on my bird with this pack? I could hook them up in a "Y" conection or I could hook the smaller pack to the tail esc and the larger pack to the main esc?

Will this work? will this help? will I blow myself up?

Justin,
You dont want to
quote:

hook them up in a "Y" conection
unless you want to spend $$$ for new ecs boards.
A while back, there was a post about using 1 bat for main & 1 bat for tail sucsessfully. Please keep in mind that by adding battey, you put more weight to your heli and result may not as expected.
Also, after ~15 minutes of flying you need to glt J250 motor cooling down to prolong its life/performance.
Regards

ouch....Im glad I asked about it first. Hey how long do you get out of your thunder pack? I only get like mabey 5 minutes of hover time and then the tail twitches on me. I can fly longer becouse I still get lift but my tail just starts to go twitchy after about 5 minutes. The motor gets really hot too. Think it could be the motor getting too hot and I should do 2 motors?

Oh yeah,,,, I have been doing some forward flight lately too. I even had JABBA go way out and I turned it around and flew it torwards me. Well I was scared for my life but luckely it crashed at my feet.

I bought a bunch of g-10 to make things out of. I made some head stiffeners out of some thicker g-10 and I am going to make the frame this week. Mabey I can customize it the way I want/need for my other heli. Its alot of fun doing things like that.

Justin I've got the same head holding giro as you, I find it gets real twitchy when the pack gets low. Caused me loads of crashes

yeah but how long do you get for flight time? I get mabey 5 minutes before I see my first glitch. then the come more frequent. I can still fly but its all twitchy and i tends to want to drop out of the sky. I have had numourios crashes due to this also. I am thinking about a 2100mah lipo next. I will see what happens.

I'm not using li-pos, just a 800mah pack. I get about 7 to 10 mins out of it. But this giro doesn't always perform first time. When it does work it's brilliant . When it doesn't it sucks . I'm wondering if it's something to do with interference or vibration. If I can't solve it I'll concentrate flying my stock HB. I'll then try turning my Dragonfly into the smallest sub micro possible.

I feel a major modding session coming on!

well the gyro we have is sensitive to viberations. It wont perform well under viberation. But I have hooked a aerohawk battery up to mine and it cannot keep the tail held like my lipos do. I think it just doesnt have the power to hold the tail. I used the aerohawk batteries becouse my buddy has 3 of them. I found the gyro just couldnt do what it was supposed to do with out my lipo. But I only get a few minutes till twitchy.

When I use my multi meter I read 8 volts on my 7.4 volt batter after it is charged. I wonder if thats a problem.

not when it takes me 45 minutes to charge it up. I need to spend lots of money to get more batteries and a few more helli's I need to hover whenever I am awake and not at work......well sometimes when I am at work too.

Justin,
With current set-up & TB 1300mah lipo, I get ~ 12-13 minutes before tail starting wagging. About your 5 minutes flight time may cause by the following:
- Your heli is beefy (g10 frame, DD tail, fuses, etc, ...) ---> more weight = less flight time.
- Main motor pinion & main gear mesh are tight.
- I've heard Hobbico charger doesnt fully charge lipo battery.
Regards

I don't think that thats quite right. When my Etec 1200 finishes its charge, my trition reads 8.4 volts when its finished charging. I think that your chargers stuffed. You might want to consider getting a swallow digital charger. It's got good value for $$$. I think about $85 US.

I have been narrowing this down so far. AS I see it now my heli is ok. I dont have dd tail anymore. I have stock will soon have duel tail. But my heli only weighs in at 274grams....a stock aerohawk(only thing I have rite now to compare with) weighs in at 285grams. And I checked my gear mesh on the bottom and all looks good. couldnt get anymore loos or wopuld strip. Spins nice and freely. So I get the imprestion it is the charger or the battery.

On a totally different note: I have a perfectly good battery and charger for sale lol
