I just got a Tamiya TL-01 for free and since I race all my other cars, I decided to turn it into a drifter. I have turnbuckles & bearings coming for it. Do you guys have any tips you can give me to get it drifting? Like tires & stuff?

Use PVC pipe for the tires, this reduces the amount of friction greatly and allows you to slide. You can pick it up at any hardware store and its pretty cheap, use tire glue to make them stick to the rim and make sure you take your rim to size up the pipe. When its all done, show us man!!!!

How would I put PVC around my rim? It doesn't bend. Can you take a picture for me?

PVC pipe comes in round tubes. It is like a tire but made of plastic, i am in the process of making my rims and they won't be ready for another week or so, i am getting them specially fitted. (my uncle works with plastics for a living) Anyways its just a matter of getting the right fit.

nrctc3, just take a cross section of pipe and slide it on to the rim, like a tire. It wont sit down in the beads, but rest on the rim edges.

Hey, I have a tl-01 with a 11 turn motor. All i needed to get it drifting was the yokomo drift tires and rings, and it drifts amazingly well. The 11 turn motor was definitely overkill, though, and so I switched back to the stock motor. So essentially, just buy the yokomo drift tires and rings, and you'll be set. Check it out... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGMV9&P=7

Here is what my TL01 looks like...it has an 11 turn motor, and a Novak ESC to handle it. I was orignially using Yokomo drift tires, and rings to drift, but not suprisingly, the rings broke after 3 runs or so, which got lame. Ive decided to go with PVC piping...here are some pictures.

Im using an 12 turn motor, and have gone crazy with this thing, (drifitng, donuts, full speed runs) with no problem. I myself cant explain this good fortune, but no complaints.
