mrbigg,

Nice job on the DR1! I found the best way to land mine is with a slight amount of power on, and delicately touch down and let it roll on the mains. If I try to 3-point it I get all messed up. Once the tail settles down on that plane it loses directional control.

Hello all..my first time posting here...I am thinking of building the Balsa USA Fokker D.VIII. My question is...as I am living on a military paycheck...what engine would be recommended for this plane that would not require selling the wife and kids to finance?

I have 4 of the Balsa USA kits. And I fly at an altitude of 5500 ft. I have installed a G-26 in my Dr-1, a Ryobi 31 in my D-VIII, a G-38 in D-VII and, a YS 120 in my sopwith pup. Any of these engines should do the trick. The ryobi are the cheapest and run good enough for the planes. but the torque is more with the gas engines than the 4 stokes, at least up here.

Nice looking DVII
Keep us posted on the progress of your DVIII. Thats why I started this thread, so that Fokker lovers could keep in touch and show off their prized birds.
I'm building the GTM low cost DVIII, with some extries like the cockpit kit, ammo box and a few other goodies.
Have fun.

Del

Anyone built the Ben Buckle Fokker D.VIII? If you have, would like to hear your thoughts about the kit and performance.

Would a 91 Four Stroke be sufficient to power the BUSA Fokker D-VIII? Also, does this plane use standard servos? Keep the pictures and ideas coming..........................

Here is a photo of my latest DR-I. It is an arf from Polk's Hobbies that came red, but was stripped & recovered with white Econokote and used Monokote trim sheets for the markings and stripes. My white tripe is modeled after the one on display at the EAA museum located in Osh Gosh, WI.

It is powered with an AXI 2212/20 brushless outrunner motor and uses a Jeti speed controller, Polk's Hobbies servos (4) and a Thunder Poers 11.1v 2100ma Li-Poly battery pack. Flights of 25 minutes on one charge and it flies great. I fly from a blacktop runway and the take-offs are a breeze and the landings are not difficult. Just make wheel landings (not three point) and be on the rudder when it slows down.

BTW, I assembled another of these tripes for a very good friend that is equipped the same as mine, only it was left red and used a Hacker speed controller.

pkf3....I think a 91 four stroke would be a bit light on power for that plane. I think they're supposed to come in around 14-15 lbs., it would probably be marginal at best. I would go at least a 150.

rcjake.....Great look'n tripe.

mrbigg,

What is the white stuff all over the ground and on your roof. Did some white sand blow through?

Does anyone know of a decent set of plans for a Siemens-Schuckert D.IV / V? I know there was a construction artilce in M.A.N., but that one is a little too big (80 inch) for my liking.
