I ran a 3s in my aerohawk for quite a few months before I went brushless and had no problems and lots of power. I fitted heatsinks on the FET`s on the board to soak up the heat and they did a good job. I wouldnt say do it in case you are just unlucky, but if you have the late type of board without the big resistor you should be ok. I will say that if you do it you should wire in a 5 amp quick blow fuse inline with the main motor just in case. Also the standard tail motor will last less time than with the stock battery. I would also advise going one tooth down on the main motor pinion.

I am using a 2 cell THUNDERPOWER 1350 Mh and this pack works excellent. 15 min flight time
No fuse installed and not worried about burning up anything.
