The Margarita, a Q500 thing of beauty. Glass fuselage, foam wing. Totaly scratch built from my own mold. Believe it or not it actualy flies with wooden pushrods!

The Q40 is the Loki. I obtained the molds from H&M Racing. Everything else is totaly scratch built, including the wooden pushrods.

Hi,

This is my old Vendetta Mustang pylon model I had to fly in the old sportsman pylon racing class which has now basically dissolved. It was pretty fast with an 46FX, but too heavy. I only ever raced it once, and it crashed due to a bad battery a week before the nats.

The next is a Dominator I built for the new Quickie 500 class which we have been flying recently. I only flew a few races with it before a poor construction job on the nose forced me out. It crashed later on, and I havent figured out why yet...Wings are all good, just got to build a new fuse.

Here is my Seeker I built but haven't had a chance to race it yet. The other is a Doddger that I am currently converting to a V-tail but it's not done yet.... Hope to test fly it on Thursday.

Here's my 424 Lanier Predator and my 428 Bird of Prey.

Predator has been flown at one race. Flies very well, especially for a $120 ARF.

Finished the paint on the Bird of Prey a week ago. Been on travel and haven't had a chance to get it finished up. I put together a build along article if anyone is interested. It was quite the learning experience...

Here's a souvenir I picked up at last years NATS from some traveling band from a far away land. It's all composite with skinned hinges and a bolt on tail. Came out 1oz. over weight. Hopefully I'll shake up the competition or at least bring it home in one piece.

The model flew perfect.

Rudeboy,

Is that a Dodger in the bones?

Here are a couple of pics of my racers. The red and white one is my Neme-Q that, sadly, is no longer with us. The blue and yellow one is my Bird of Prey with the Jett BSE.

Fun fun fun!

Yeah... it's modelled after the Doddger... but with a different wing, fuse and tail section.
Will be Jett powered too...

How do you like your Jett?

I absolutely LOVE my Jett motor. In fact, I like it so much I ordered another one even though this one runs so well. The new one just arrived a few days ago. Now I have the one I've been using for about a year and am very happy with, and a brand new one that I still need to break in.

By the way, I started going a lot faster with the Jett when I stopped listening to the Nelson guys about how to needle it. I try to needle by sound and not even use the tach. On the starting line you can tell by the way it sounds that it isn't turning as high of a STATIC RPM as the Nelsons but when it unloads in the air, WOW!

So what you're saying is that it is EXACTLY like the Dodger except different right?

Rudeboy,

Here's another couple of facts about the Jett:

1. If you want to know how fast it's spinning the prop, tach it QUICKLY and don't try to find the last 50 rpm by tweaking the needle while it screams. You can do that with the Nelsons but not the Jetts ... don't know why ... don't care. Just start 1 turn rich, turn the needle in until it jumps onto the last stage of the pipe, read the tach, then immediately back off to rich again.

2. Static rpm not only won't tell you much about how good the engine is, it can actually be misleading. Some of the better engines actually show worse ground rpm than engines that don't go as fast in the air.

I'll vouch for John (js3) on that engine of his. It's a monster.

Duane

John or Duane,

So when you launch the Jett, are you on the last stage of the pipe on the ground, or does it get on it in the air? What is the preferred race prop?

Luisec74,

Looks like a great place to race. I see one person down there has good taste in plane colors (Note Green plane in center)

Paul,

At our last race, I set the needle so that it was just barely on the last stage of the pipe on the ground. The prop I used that day was the 8.75 X 9.0W. I felt that the mixture was very fat and still had room to come in on the needle if I wanted to but hey, better too rich than too lean.

In practice, I've used the 8.8 X 9.25 and felt that it was real fast but last season I tried using the 9.25 at a race and it didn't seem to go very well. That was me though; I don't yet fly smoothly enough to take advantage of the higher pitch props and that day (last season) just wasn't my day which made things worse.

BTW, I like the 8.75 X 9.0W better than the 8.8 X 8.75; they both turn about the same static RPM on my motor but the 9.0W unloads better.

I agree with both Duane and John also.
Just like John, I find the 8.75x9w is much faster than the 8.8x8.75 in the air even though they both tach similar on the ground. Although, I've found the most speed out of the 8.8x9 with my BSE Jett which turn between 19400-19600 rpm on a good day and only 19300 on average day. But once it unload, watch out... it scream!!!

One thing about the Jett that can be deceiving is... it does not turn high rpm while on the ground, but will unload more than the Nelson while in the air. Just an FYI...
