Nice photos of your scooters,
I used castor in a Parilla Wildcat 250 from the early 70's.
Great ride, but got the urge to trade it. What a mistake.

Thanks, Beagle....

....go carts come to mind. I don't think anyone ever ran anything but straight
"Blend-zall" castor in those old hopped-up McCullough chain saw engines.

I wonder what they use in those lumberjack chainsaw competitions ?

The Wildcat 250 was a shaft driven high cam four stroke. With the reverse cone pipe, it was along with the 30.50 BSA Goldstar a sound that greatly catches my interest even yet.
The Parilla had to have the right oil in it or the clutch would slip. Not sure of the blend but remember it was castor based.

The final word is completely off topic.

....good on ya' Rcpilet. I remembered this thread, but didn't recall that is was locked-up.

Getting a good thread back on topic is the way to go, not closing it.

Two thumbs up for ya'.

FBD.

Probably not.

But it's still okay to talk about it if we try to stay on target and keep it about RC motors and the oils we use in them. I was reading the other thread and it seamed like the same debate. I remembered this thread and went searching for it.

I'll let you guys figure out which oil is best. I already know what works for me and I'll just leave it at that. You guys have fun! Thats what these forums are for.

Well stated Rcpilet. I have seen countless opinions expressed on these pages, but I don't recall having seen an opinion changed.

Anyone who is curious about castor should just try it for themselves. It won't take long to realize why so many got away from it as soon as a cleaner option became available.

You are correct. I tried synthetic and saw immediately that some folks would rather save on paper towels than protect their engines.

Fortunately, except for those flying in those forms of competition requiring the methanol/castor FAI mix, most of us can use whatever we chose for whatever reason we wish. ( I would encourage avoidance of some of the rather toxic mixes once poular for CL speed. )

I found it much easier to give the plane a few squirts of 409 and wipe it off
with a few paper towels, than it is to buy main bearings and install them.

A real time saver. (and money)

Some guys would rather rebuild than wipe....go figure.

FBD.

Clean up is even easier if you use a polymer synthetic wax on the covering. It wipes up easier. An organic wax compound like carnuba doesn't last as long as a synthetic.
