The price of Motul Micro?

Harry ... all I can say is be ready to bite the lip ... the price was NOT pretty ... try $40 for 2 litres ..

Yup ... definite pucker factor there.
But - I wanted it ... and I walked out with 2x2 litre packs ...

Smells real, real nice .... good perfume is expensive, right

Then again ..

Checking out the price of the high end Motul 2 stroke oils for motorcycle racing purposes ... FD rated ... your looking at $30 odd for a 1 litre pack ... so, it costs what it costs. The best always does....

You haven't seen what we pay for Klotz or Morgans here have you?

Check out these prices for various oils/quantities.

Although places like this are slightly cheaper.

The prices at the second link you gave us XJet are roughly the same as we pay in Aussie $$ for the same product, so you're actually getting it cheaper when the currencies are converted.

Our Methanol is much cheaper though. I pay $45 for a 20 Litre drum.

The last 206ltr drum of methanol I bought (about 2 months ago) was NZ$315 including shipping. That's $1.52 per litre. You guys get really ripped off, and the worst of it is that we buy it from an Aussie company :-)

Mind you, I've seen it selling for about NZ$55 per 20ltr container here. You've got to buy a big drum to get the right price.

Our nitromethane prices have just gone up to $90 for 4-litres and the importer says we can expect another big hike in the New Year. How much do you guys pay?

I can't remember exactly.

In most hobby shops i visit here you can get the VP racing nitro for about $70 4 litres.

There's also a chinese nitro which is a little cheaper, but not much. I'm currently using the chinese stuff and haven't had any issues.

We used to be able to get Angus nitro but i don't know the price.

I've got a Hawker Tempest Mk II with a Saito 450R up front nearing completion of build ... guess I better take out a 3rd mortgage for the methanol and oil it will need.

Don't even mention the cost of nitro ... it will have OBG so I will try it on 5% nitro

I'm sure if i shopped around i could find it cheaper. I usually buy if from a hobby shop becuase it's convenient.

It takes me the best part of a year to burn through the 30 odd litres of fuel i mix with a 20 litre drum of methanol and 5 or so litres each of oil and nitro. So fuel costs for me as an annual expense and i'd guess i spend around $200 per year.

Another question, are there any insurance issues with storing 20+ litres of glow fuel in a residential home?
I keep my fuel elevated off the concrete floor in the garage using timber slats, right next to the back rolladoor.
My theory is if there is a fire in the home i can get the fuel out of the danger asap. The catch is that when the door is open i have to make sure the fuel is covered to prevent the sunlight from hitting it.

On the subject of nitromethane, this article is an interesting read. Don't drop your fuel bottle :-)

I just found, in a junk box down in the basement, a 8 oz bottle of drug store castor oil. It is not congealed or stiff. It doesn't smell bad. It is not any more yellow than new castor. It still has the price sticker of 79 cents USD. It has to be from the 60's.

I think I used a few drops at a time in paint to control shrinkage? The bottle is almost full.

It would be nice if you could buy a 16 oz bottle for $1.58 now?

Jim,

I wouldn't use that old castor oil in my engines if I were you...

Although is seems to have not changed from the '60s, it is possibly not a first-pressing AA grade (otherwise known as 'degummed').
It might even have sugar added to it, if it was bought from a drugstore...

Just keep it as a trinket from days gone by...

I thought castor was degummed after first pressing
at least that's what morgan fuel has been saying

Ed,

Castor oil is, for the R/C hobby, labeled as 'degummed' when it is from the first pressing of the beans...

However, this is something we don't know about that '60s version bottle Jim found.

If this pharmaceutical grade castor oil has any sugar in it... the engine will be REALLY gummed up...

'CleanCastorâ„¢' from Morgan is degummed.

OK I just remembered when I was looking at their site the other day something about degummed

Castor - Our CleanCastorâ„¢ is obtained from the first pressing of the castor bean and is lower in acidity than other castors. It is then degummed, to minimize excess carbon while gaining maximum protection. It has excellent emollient and lubricating properties

I guess saying it that way makes it seem like there's is better that's marketing for you

I just completely tore down my magnum 52 4 stroke that's been running on omega the muffler looks like an over cooked hotdog but the insides where clean as could be if you don't count the half a broken tooth on the cam gear
I know when that happened about 2 weeks ago it acted like it went lean so I landed it turned over a couple of times a little rough then it was fine, turns out the pieces made it through the rear bearing and beat the tar out of the crank end of the conrod it
but it fired up fine and ran 10k for a full gallon the only reason I took it apart was because I could hear the exhaust valve leaking compression so while I had the head off I dicided to take a look
I'll post a pic when I get time
Not sure if castor helped but I'm sold on it at least a mix
