Say BBriBro, sorry to keep pestering you... I've been looking at the Walbro site, and none of the WYK carbs show two mixture needles on the blow ups. What's up with that? Have they changed the carbs, or what?

Also, you mentioned you have used two stroke carbs. Did that not work well on the four stroker?

Thanks,
AV8TOR

Without pointing them out on a diagram it might be difficult, but the hi speed needle is a fairly large screw in the side of the carb body, the low speed needle is a tiny little screw deep down inside of the throttle arm. The low speed needle is actually raising and lowering the long tapered needle that also moves up as you open the throttle.

AV8TOR...its a tiny little screw like BB says...sometimes covered by red sealer??? You need a very tiny screw driver. It made a of change on a Homelite 25cc. Capt,n

This thread is over 4 years old !! I had no idea it would keep coming back, or I would have left the pics, but the "engine conversion" crowd is so small I figured everyone had seen it. I removed the pics to free up some space, I'd be glad to email them to you, I have quite a few of the plane and the little honda torn down. It's still running strong....well maybe I should say running fine, it's never been very strong

A good friend of mine put a GX-35 on a giant telemaster, I don't know how much more it weighs than the 25, but it's got quite a bit more power, and with a wing that big, it's still a floater. I'll see if he's got any pics. As far as the conversion itself, it's the same as the 25, backplate mount, grind off the excess crankcase webbing, lighten the flywheel a bit, buy a prop hub, remove the compression release, some guys run the stock carb, but I don't like not having a mixture especially since it wasn't jetted for this application.

Thanks BBriBro,I guess I should have said I already have the GX-35,and it's been converted.I've got a two needle carb on it,the flywheel's been lightened, and I cut everything that wasn't needed off.I have only bench ran it so far,but it seems to run strong.I'm getting almost 7000rpm out of it on a 20x8 MAS prop.I hope it will pull the D-VII around,I read somewhere in this forum about a guy using a B&S 40 fourstroke, and he wasn't happy with it's power.

Thanks again Jim

what is the wingspan, (or more importantly wing area) and weight of the fokker? the short nose should be good for the heavy engine, I'm guessing it'll have plenty of wing, kinda like a sopwith pup? to carry the weight.

I just finished the balsa usa D7 it has 2300 square inchs of wing, and will NEED the weight in the nose....even thought it has a fairly long nose on it, I doubt you would ever end up nose heavy without lead.

bladejunkie,

I had a B&S 40 in my DVII.It turns a 20x8 MAS at 6400 - 6500 and my DVII weighs 23+lbs so I had to fly at full throttle the whole time. With the extra power from the Honda and if you keep the weight down, yours should fly nicely.

Good luck!
