I swapped a Pizzaz for a slightly damaged Goldberg 330. (Fell out of a hover and and cracked the fuse just behind the wing trailing edge) I used minimum amount of repair material to double stringers and replaced sheeting.
I've scanned the threads for the CG and so far I've found the recommendations from Tower ( 4 1/4" to 4 3/4" back from the leading edge) and a mention in a thread that someone was flying one at 5 3/4" back. I can no longer find this thread.
I'm using standard Futaba radio (s-148's). I mounted a Webra 50 to the nose and found that in order to have the CG at 5 3/4" behind the leading edge it would need a tremendous amount of nose weight. I mounted a Saito 80 and it bought the CG within range, 5 3/4" .
I thought it was kind of strange that a 40 size model would take this much weight to balance out.
The total weight is 5 lbs so far and to bring the CG to the range Tower has stated would take more nose weight.
So is there anyone out there flying one of these and if so where is your CG set?

Thanks
Pat

30% MAC = 5.5" back from the leading edge at the root

I would stick some lead on the landing gear in the shape of a U and tape it there or put a heavy spinner nut on it for a few flights, just to get used to the plane. Don't forget low rates. Then start removing the weight. Can't remember where mine wound up at but it was way past suggested.

Ed,
When you say way past suggested, do you mean farther back than the range that Tower has published of 4 1/4'" - 4 3/4" behind the leading edge?

30% of MAC calculates to 5.5" behind the leading edge at the root. With my current set up with an 80 Saito it falls at 5 3/4" and this is where I'm going to start.

Pat

I was at or over an inch behind the rear published cg point. It made it very touchy, but once I got used to it most of the time I was on high rates.

I'm not sure where I am from the leading edge but i'm about 1 inch behind the main spar.
I also have a saito 82 mounted up front. no lead on this plane.
i have about 8 flights on it so far and still getting used to four stroking. but today I dialed in flap to elevator mix and found the plane to be more stable ( less pitchy ) when I input elevator.
last week I thought I might have the cg to far back. this week, after the mix, I think if I wanted I might be able to move it back some more.
get into trouble with combo and the engine bails me right out....

It finally quit raining long enough for me to put a couple flights on this 330. It performs really well with the set up I have. I don't see how you can balance this airplane with the suggested engine sizes without adding unnecessary weight.
I have a Saito 80 mounted on this and the CG is 5 3/4" behind the leading edge at the root, which is an aft CG.
